Job summary

Our general and specialist rotations include: Stroke Rehabilitation & Community Stroke Service Acute Older Peoples Services Critical Care with Surgery Surgery, Amputee Rehabilitation & Critical Care Acute Medicine with the following specialties: endocrinology, neurology & respiratory. Orthopaedics Emergency Therapy Team - Frailty unit, Accident & Emergency, Acute Assessment Unit You will be involved in Quality Improvement projects, have students, participate in weekend working and the emergency respiratory on-call rota, supported by band 7 OT and PT team leads and the OT/PT Clinical Leads. We have a Trust's Appraisal system and a Band 7 Practice Development Physiotherapist. HCPC registration and previous NHS experience is essential for this post. All interviews will be conducted face to face

Main duties of the job
Take professional responsibility for managing a caseload, undertaking comprehensive assessments, formulating accurate diagnoses, and delivering evidence-based physiotherapy interventions for patients with complex conditions. Provide individualised treatment plans using advanced clinical reasoning, manual therapy, exercise prescription, and patient education. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support discharge planning and ensure continuity of care. Maintain accurate clinical records, manage risks, and comply with confidentiality and data protection requirements.

Participate in weekend, on-call, and emergency respiratory rotas, providing specialist advice to clinical colleagues. Support the development of junior staff, students, and support workers through supervision, teaching, and performance assessment. Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development (CPD) and contribute to audit, research, and service improvement activities to promote evidence-based practice.

Represent physiotherapy within multidisciplinary team meetings, supporting integrated patient care. Demonstrate flexibility in working across Trust sites and services, undertaking leadership and operational responsibilities as required while maintaining high clinical, professional standards.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Registered as a Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Desirable
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience
Essential
  • NHS experience as a Physiotherapist
  • Post registration experience in relevant clinical settings: Respiratory, Neurology, Surgery, MSK.
  • Experience of sole working as part of an emergency respiratory out of hours service
  • Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HCPC recommendations
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of audit/research.

Desirable
  • Advice, training, and support to more junior staff, assistants, and students.
  • Member of specific relevant interest group
  • Committee membership eg Risk Management

Skills
Essential
  • Application of Risk Management
  • Ability to deliver training both internally within the profession and externally to other staff groups.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
  • Ability to apply current best practice in physiotherapy in acute physical and rehab settings.
  • Ability to maintain respiratory competency to be able to perform emergency on-call physiotherapy duties
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to supervise other staff e.g. more junior staff / assistants / students.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member

Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of professional legal and ethical responsibilities.
  • Broad understanding of current physiotherapy best practice across acute, community, and rehabilitation settings.
  • Knowledge of risk management, clinical governance, data protection, and confidentiality.
  • Flexible, reliable, and able to build patient trust, confidence, and a sense of safety.
  • Strong IT, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Able to present information clearly and logically.
  • Capacity to undertake sustained moderate-to-intense physical activity and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
