We'd love for you to join us! We have a band 5 part time post available in our mainstream primary schools' team.

This 3-day post will have direct clinical time for 2 to 2 1/2 days and your timetable will also have dedicated planning time and time for NQP competencies. You will be working in an allocated mainstream school, supporting children, families and school staff across specialist, targeted and universal services.

The bulk of your work will be with children aged 5-11, but you may be required to work with younger or older children if this is needed by the service.

Main duties of the job
As a speech and language therapist working in mainstream schools you will support children and young people with varied speech, language and communication needs to reach their potential. You will have a small allocation of schools that you will visit weekly. You will provide specialist assessments, a range of specialist and targeted interventions, and offer training, support and advice to school staff and parents. You will support children with developmental language disorder, autism, speech disorders, complex needs, and other communication difficulties. You will provide a service that considers the needs of children and families from a range of ethnic, linguistic, and neurodiverse backgrounds. You will have access to regular support, clinical supervision and learning opportunities.

Essential

• Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
• Registered member of HCPC
• Member of RCSLT

Experience
Essential

• To have undergraduate experience in theories, assessment and therapy techniques / approaches for children with communication disorders
• To have undergraduate experience in implications for delays / disorders within an educational setting
• Experience of working with a range of children's communication disorders in community clinics and educational establishments at an undergraduate level.
• Experience of working with children's communication disorders in an undergraduate level.
• Experience of ensuring health and safety standards are followed
• Experience of working collaboratively with a range of professionals to provide direct and indirect intervention for the client group.

Desirable

• To have undergraduate experience in special educational issues for client groups
• Experience of working with school aged children.
• Some experience of working with bilingual families in deprived socio-economic inner-city areas
• Experience of providing training to education and health staff and parents and carers

Knowledge
Essential

• Up-to-date knowledge of research relating to children with speech and language disorders
• Awareness of principles of clinical governance
• Developed negotiating and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of the roles of other professionals working with specialist client group
