Applicants must have completed at least ST5 of higher training or equivalent, have prior experience in Gynaecology Oncology. This post is not approved for training. The recently agreed planned restructuring of surgical services across Barts Health within the "Sustaining Safe and Compassionate Care: the next ten years" agenda will see RLH site further developed as a leading centre for complex abdominal-pelvic surgery. The GO department is leading on this redevelopment.
At Royal London there are 7 consultant gynaecological oncological surgeons. There are comprehensive clinical nurse specialists, palliative care and pain service provision at the Royal London. There is a dedicated gynaecological ward with 20 dedicated Gynaecological Oncology and benign Gynaecology beds.

Job responsibilitiesDuties of the post-SurgeryThe trainee will be responsible for the pre-operative assessment, intra-operative management and post-operative care of all patients with gynaecological cancer. The trainee will attend at least 1 gynaecological oncology lists each week. Concomitant operating lists in colorectal surgery, urological surgery and vascular surgery exist and the post holder will be encouraged to avail himself/herself of this breadth of expertise.
ClinicsThe trainee will attend weekly gynaecological oncology clinics and Rapid Access clinics.In addition, the trainee may conduct a colposcopy clinic. All clinics will be performed with consultant supervision.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Full GMC registration
- MB BS or equivalent
- MRCOG or European CCST
DesirableKnowledgeEssential- The candidate should have been accredited/have CCT, or have completed at least five years of ST training with a satisfactory ARCP outcome, (candidates must bring their own NTN with them in this case) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, or equivalent.
Clinical Expertise in Gynaecological OncologyEssential- Basic gynaecological oncology training
Desirable- Evidence of additional clinical experience in or relevant to Gynaecological Oncology
Management/Audit ExperienceEssential- As in MRCOG training
- Good organisational and management skills
- Ability to act within the clinical Governance framework of the NHS
- Computing and IT skills
Desirable- Competent in simple MIS hysterectomy and simple open hysterectomy
- BSCCP accreditation (or equivalent)
Academic Achievements Research PublicationsEssential- Research experience; for example peer review publication or presentation at national or international meetings (eg BGCS )
DesirablePersonal SkillsEssential- Good leadership skills
