Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Cardiac Physiologist specialising in Pacing and Cath Lab to join our friendly and dynamic team at Bedford Hospital. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the continued growth and development of our Cardiology service.

Our service provides a comprehensive range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures, including Primary PCI, elective PCI using advanced technologies such as Shockwave, IVUS, iFR, and FFR, bradycardia pacemaker implantation and follow-up, remote monitoring, cardioversion, exercise tolerance testing, tilt table testing, and ambulatory monitoring (Holter, BP, and loop recorder monitoring). Our Cardiac Centre has two catheterisation laboratories, including a newly developed state-of-the-art facility.

We have an excellent reputation for supporting the education, training, and professional development of Cardiac Physiologists. This role offers the opportunity to share specialist expertise, support colleagues, and contribute to a positive learning environment.

While specialist pacing and cath lab experience is essential, we encourage our physiologists to expand their skills across other areas of cardiac physiology. We are committed to supporting ongoing training, development, and career progression.

A 10% Recruitment and Retention Bonus is available for Cardiac Physiologists with recognised pacing accreditation (HRUK/IBHRE/EHRA).

Main duties of the job
MAIN RESPONSIBILITES:
  • To participate in the provision of the cardiac rhythm management including inpatient Pacemaker/ICD/CRT checks, pre-op Pacemaker/ICD/CRT programming, outpatient pacemaker clinic and remote monitoring.
  • To assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within the CathLab, including elective PCI (with IVUS/FFR/IFR), pacemaker implants and loop recorder implants.
  • To maintain high standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non-invasive).
  • To effectively, promptly, and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
  • To assist in the day-to-day management of procedures/workload/organisation within the department.
  • To act as a role model for junior members of the team and to contribute to their development.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc Hons Clinical Physiology or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) accreditation or European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) accreditation or International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) accreditation - for specialists in Pacing

Desirable
  • Registered with the AHCS
  • Completed ILS

Experience
Essential
  • Experience performing and reporting full pacing clinics to a high standard of quality - for specialists in Pacing.
  • Experience assisting in Cathlab procedures including primary PCI, elective PCI and pacemaker implants.
  • Supervising and training junior members of staff/students

Desirable
  • Experience with clinical audits
  • Experience developing protocols and guidelines
  • Some experience checking ICD/CRT devices

Knowledge
Essential
  • Cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
  • ECG analysis and interpretation
