Job summary
It is a fantastic opportunity for current 8a or experienced band 7 Cardiac Physiologist to further their career at St Barts Health NHS Trust.

Barts Health NHS Trust and University College London Hospital (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust together offer one of the largest echocardiography services, conducting nearly 70,000 scans each year. UCLH features a comprehensive cardiac diagnostic and imaging service that provides advanced cardiac physiology support for a variety of complex clinical pathways. In collaboration with partner organizations, including Barts Health NHS Trust, this service is recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and the advancement of specialized cardiovascular care.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 8a Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologist - Advanced Echo Specialist, QA & Education Lead to join our cardiac physiology service mainly at (UCLH). This is an exciting opportunity for an expert echocardiographer to take on a senior leadership role that combines advanced clinical practice with responsibility for quality assurance, service development, and education within a large, multi-site NHS organisation.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide specialist clinical leadership in echocardiography, delivering advanced procedures including physiologist-led valve, aortopathy and late effects clinics, stress, transoesophageal, contrast and bubble echocardiography, as well as pregnancy and paediatric echo services.

Alongside a significant clinical role, the post holder will lead on quality assurance, clinical governance and service improvement, ensuring high standards of patient care. They will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support service delivery across all sites and contribute to teaching, mentoring and training cardiac physiologists, cardiology and intensive care trainees.

Applicants must hold a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent), be BSE accredited (or equivalent), and have substantial experience in advanced echocardiography. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a leading NHS Trust through clinical leadership, education and innovation.

Experience
Essential
  • Experience specialist level with relevant accreditations (BSE or European equivalent)
  • Experience with leading and training all grades of staff and clinicians
  • Experience of echo education

Desirable
  • Experience of planning and developing specialist services including contributing toward local and national policies
  • Experience of developing service plans, business cases and cost improvement plans
  • Evidence of communicating specialist information to key stakeholders including clinicians

Skills
Essential
  • Day-to-day frontline operational management.
  • Ability to manage and lead team in emergency situations
  • Comprehensive leadership and management abilities

Desirable
  • Fully competent in Echo and other Cardiac diagnostic tests.

Knowledge
Essential
  • Expert theoretical and practical knowledge in Echocardiography

  • Utilise research in clinical practice, applying an evidence-based practice approach

Qualifications

  • BSE/ESC accreditation
  • BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
