Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Cardiac Physiologist to join our friendly and dynamic Non-Invasive Cardiology Team at Bedford Hospital. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting the provision of a comprehensive cardiac diagnostic service.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills through a structured training and development programme in Non-Invasive Cardiology. Training will include areas such as ambulatory ECG (tape) analysis, exercise tolerance testing, tilt table testing, and progression towards echocardiography.

Our department has an excellent reputation for supporting the education, training, and professional development of Cardiac Physiologists, providing a supportive environment to build clinical expertise and confidence.

The outpatient echocardiography service provides a wide range of specialist clinics, including valve surveillance, physiologist-led bubble and contrast echocardiography, chemotherapy cardiac monitoring, heart failure assessment, and open-access GP referral clinics.

The wider Cardiology Service also delivers a comprehensive range of invasive cardiac procedures, including primary PCI, elective PCI with advanced imaging and physiological assessment tools such as Shockwave, IVUS, iFR, and FFR, as well as pacemaker implantation and follow-up services.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse and report ambulatory ECG (Holter) recordings and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) results accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform and supervise exercise tolerance tests (ETT) in line with national guidelines, departmental protocols, and best practice standards.
  • Conduct and support Tilt Table Tests, ensuring safe patient care and adherence to approved clinical procedures.
  • Assist with specialised cardiac investigations, including stress echocardiography, following appropriate training and competency assessment.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures by explaining investigations, obtaining informed consent where appropriate, and ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the process.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and produce timely, high-quality diagnostic reports.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes, equipment checks, infection prevention and control procedures, and clinical governance activities.
  • Work collaboratively with cardiologists, specialist nurses, cardiac physiologists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide an effective and patient-centred diagnostic service.
