Job summaryA full time (10 PA) LOCUM Consultant ENT Surgeon is required at Bedfordshire Hospitals to work with a supportive, dynamic &enthusiastic ENT team to help further develop services between Luton & Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital. They should be able to manage all aspects of General Adult and Paediatric ENT.
The on-call commitment is 1:4 week days covering Bedford Hospital with prospective cover for annual and study leave. Weekend on-call is 1:10 covering both Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital
Main duties of the jobKey tasks:- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital.
- To provide and support colleagues with the management of all adult and paediatric patients presenting with ENT conditions.
In addition, the post-holder will have the following responsibilities- To develop close links with the ENT Team and undertake the responsibilities of outpatient ENT Clinics.
- Teaching and training of intermediate grade and, junior medical staff, medical students and ENT Nursing Staff.
- To develop and lead Clinical Research in ENT with the support of Research & Ethic Committee in the Trust.
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

QualificationsEssential- Medical Degree
- Relevant postgraduate qualification MRCS, FRCS (ORL-NHS) or equivalent
Desirable- MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
RegistrationEssential- Full GMC Registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register: ?CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview) ?CESR - portfolio pathway (must be on Specialist Register at time of applying)
Clinical ExperienceEssential- Excellent all round experience of DGH work
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in ENT
- Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
Clinical EffectivenessEssential- Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD
- Experience of guideline appraisal
- Participation in relevant local audits
- Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
Desirable- Participation in relevant national audits
TeachingEssential- Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students
Desirable- Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course

Clinical GovernanceEssential- Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance
Personal CircumstancesEssential- Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies
- Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory occupational health clearance
- Satisfactory DBS clearance
