Job summary
To work within the Specialist Palliative Care Team, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. To contribute to the delivery of a high quality, accessible palliative care service, providing specialist support, care and advice to patients and their families living with life limiting disease.

Main duties of the job
The Highly Specialist Nurse is an autonomous practitioner and has the freedom to act to influence patient care and service provision. They will exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making in specialist palliative care, in relation to the management of patients, their carers and professionals involved in their care, across all specialities and all care settings.

The Highly Specialist Nurse will be able to demonstrate higher levels of clinical decision making and so enable the monitoring and improving of standards of care through supervision of practice, as direct or indirect activity, clinical audit, development of practice through research, teaching, and the support of professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply

Qualifications
Essential
  • 1st Level Registered General Nurse.
  • Post registration qualification in relevant area or knowledge gained through equivalent experience.
  • Relevant First Degree or working towards, or knowledge gained through equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable
  • Non-Medical Independent Prescriber
  • Teaching qualification or knowledge gained through relevant experience

Experience
Essential
  • Significant post registration experience in relevant specialty
  • Experience of working effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team

Desirable
  • Experience in palliative care settings
  • Teaching skills and experience

Skills
Essential
  • Significant post registration experience in relevant specialty
  • Ability to work both within a team and autonomously
  • Effective time management and organisational skills
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Ability to lead and influence change through application of advanced clinical knowledge and skills

Desirable
  • Experience of participation in research and audit.
  • Good IT skills (Word, email, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to make own transport arrangements for home visits/to travel between sites

  • Fluency in the Welsh language
