Are you looking for a new and exciting position to support patient pathways and clinical excellence?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing team. We are a multi-disciplinary team that carry out a variety of different dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.

We are looking to recruit to the post below:

Band 5 Specialist Dental Nurse

22.5 hours / 0.6 WTE - permanent post

Working days to be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday.

The post-holder must hold a Dental Sedation Certificate (IV and IHS), be up to date with Sedation training and able to supply a copy of their CPD log relating to their Sedation specialism.

The post-holder must be flexible as travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required.

The Post Holder will support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

Delivery of high-quality clinical nursing support for the specialties across Dental Services Division clinical sites to respond to the complex needs of the patients that meet the specialty criteria.

Main duties of the job
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs
  • Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables as required from appropriate suppliers.
  • Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.
  • Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments. E.g. height weight and blood pressure
  • Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager.
  • Identify relevant staff & student who require additional training within the specialty & escalate as appropriate
  • Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
  • Adhere to procedures to support and maintaining achieving national targets of compliance.
  • Ensure to implement agreed, local Divisional and Trust Policies.
  • Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.

Part of this role will be to maintain, co-ordinate and support the Service Level Agreement (SLA) linked with the Medium Secure Units in the Birmingham locality within the Special Care service. Please see attached the job description and person specification for a detailed account of the role.

Education
Essential
  • A Dental Nurse qualification that enables registration with the General Dental Council i.e. NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or Dental Nursing National Certificate in Dental Nursing / Gained entry onto GDC register via grand parenting (pre-2008)
  • Registered with the General Dental Council
  • Hold a post-registration qualification certificate or equivalent, and provide evidence of continual professional development, where relevant: Dental Sedation Nursing - Special Care Dental Nursing - Orthodontic Dental Nursing - Dental Radiography - Oral Health Education - Dental Implant Nursing

Desirable
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or equivalent

Experience
Essential
  • Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry
  • Significant evidence of continued professional development relevant to the Specialty (IV/IHS)
  • Computer literacy
  • Demonstrate experience of supporting undergraduates and post-registration staff to deliver high quality patient care and achieve their required educational standards.

Desirable
  • Evidence service quality improvement bringing about improved patient outcomes.
  • Evidence informal and formal assessment experience in an educational or healthcare environment
