Job summaryThis Deputy Clinical Director (DCD) role is a clinical leadership position designed to allow the development of senior clinical leadership skills with the benefit of mentorship and coaching from the existing Clinical Directors within the Medicine Division. The postholder supports operational delivery within the clinical group while receiving support from experienced colleagues where required. It is anticipated that the applicant will be in a position to apply for a full CD role within the first 12 months.
Main duties of the jobA. Operational Leadership & Day-to-Day Delivery- Provide daily operational oversight across services.
- Working in the triumvirate team in the Medicine Division
- Support Divisional Managers to coordinate staffing, flow, escalation and pressure management.
B. Performance & Improvement- Support delivery of RTT, cancer, diagnostics and flow standards.
- Facilitate improvement huddles and performance reviews.
- Use data to support identification of issues and improvement opportunities.
C. Quality, Safety & Governance- Support management of incidents, complaints and risks.
- Inform Medicine Division governance reviews and triage of escalated concerns.
- Lead allocated quality improvement actions.
- Ensure embedding of risk controls and governance processes.
D. Workforce Leadership & Culture- Support workforce planning, PDR/appraisal, recruitment and wellbeing initiatives.
- Promote positive working culture aligned to BWC values.
- Participate in job planning and deployment discussions with support.
- Support leadership development of clinical service leads
E. Finance & Resource Management- Develop understanding of budget management with mentorship.
- Support quality impact assessments and delivery of CIP programmes.
- Participate in reviews of productivity and efficiency.
F. Service Improvement & Transformation- Lead specific improvement projects.
- Support adoption of digital systems.
- Learn QI and transformation methodologies.
