Job summary
Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate Registered Nurse looking to develop your career in primary care?

Bishops Waltham Surgery is seeking a motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week).

We are a progressive, patient-centred GP practice committed to delivering high-quality care to our local community. We are particularly interested in hearing from nurses with experience or a keen interest in diabetes management, although support and training will be provided for the right candidate wishing to develop this specialist area.

What We're Looking For
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to delivering safe, patient-centred care.
  • Experience in primary care is desirable but not essential.
  • An interest in diabetes care and long-term condition management.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care within a GP practice setting.
  • Undertake chronic disease reviews, particularly diabetes, asthma and COPD.
  • Provide cervical screening, immunisations and vaccinations.
  • Deliver wound care, dressings and other treatment room services.
  • Promote health and wellbeing through patient education and preventative care.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, Healthcare Assistants, Pharmacists and the wider Primary Care Network.

Job Purpose
To provide high-quality evidence-based nursing care to the practice population, promoting health, preventing disease and supporting patients with long-term conditions. The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide treatment room nursing services.
  • Deliver chronic disease management clinics, including diabetes.
  • Undertake cervical cytology.
  • Administer childhood and adult immunisations and vaccinations.
  • Perform wound care and dressings.
  • Undertake NHS Health Checks.
  • Monitor and recall patients with long-term conditions.
  • Support patients with self-management and lifestyle advice.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records using EMIS.
  • Participate in infection prevention and control activities.
  • Maintain professional registration and undertake mandatory training.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and practice meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse (NMC).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable
  • General Practice Nursing experience.
  • Experience managing long-term conditions.
  • Diabetes qualification or experience.
  • Cervical cytology qualification.
  • Immunisation and vaccination training.
  • Experience using EMIS Web.
  • Mentorship or teaching experience.

Experience
Essential
  • Experience delivering nursing care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good IT skills.

Knowledge
Essential
