Job summary
Advert for Wolverhampton Pain 8a/7-8a 0.2WTE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner (Clinical, Counselling or Health) Psychologist to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service. This is a part time (0.2WTE), 8a role, in our Chronic Pain Service. We would also consider a recently qualified Practitioner Psychologist for a 7-8a development role. The post holder will be based in Wolverhampton, with the expectation that they will work across our other sites across the Black Country, if service need required this. The successful applicant will provide input to the multi-disciplinary pain management programme, alongside a small caseload of 1:1 work. The aim of our service is to decrease psychological distress, improve quality of life, patient experience and enhance wellbeing in those who have a physical health condition, supporting people to live well, alongside their condition.

The service also offers teaching, training and consultancy to staff from the multi-disciplinary team to enable them to manage psychological issues with their patients and incorporate psychological principles into their own practice. This provides the postholder with variety in their work and the opportunity to use the full range of their skills.

We will use the stepped care model based on the guidance, with physical health psychology offering direct work with the most complex patients and supporting the team to work with lower-level distress.

Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.

  • Formulates plans for highly specialist psychological therapy and/or management of clients' mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.
  • Implements a range of highly specialist psychological therapies for individual clients, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.
  • Undertakes highly skilled evaluations and makes decisions about treatment options.
