We are looking for a Band 6 midwife to be involved with clinical audit and to support assurance for the clinical service unit. You will be willing to learn about and undertake clinical audit and take a proactive approach to reviewing and tracking guidelines, standard operating procedures, NICE Guidance and other elements that are required to provide assurance for the Women's' CSU.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to undertake audit and assist with ensuring guidelines remain in date, are in line with best practice and support authors where appropriate, helping to maintain accurate, up to date records off all maternity and gynecology guidelines. Close communication will be required with the governance support officer.

You will analyse information found and produce audit reports along with action plans.

You will facilitate the clinical audit plan incorporating local and national audit requirements that support clinical effectiveness and provide written and verbal reports and presentations of completed audit projects to the relevant multi-professional groups.

You will help with multi-disciplinary clinical audit and ensure it is embedded at ward level, liaising with departmental managers on clinical issues related to practice.

You will attend and participate in Women's CSU meetings as appropriate

You will also be supported and exposed to all aspects of Quality, Safety and Governance under the direction and support of the Specialist Midwife for Quality & Safety, placing women, families and staff at the heart of all you do.

Job responsibilities
Work with the multi-disciplinary team to update or change guidelines or policies as appropriate.

Support the maternity guideline development and review processes.

Where appropriate build on existing research and national guidelines to improve practice.

Develop, implement, monitor, review and embed strategies and frameworks to underpin the principles of clinical governance in Womens Services.

Assist with clinical governance activities and clinical risk management.

Assist with investigations following clinical incidents.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working as a Registered Midwife across a range of clinical areas
  • Knowledge of current local and national midwifery agenda and priorities

Desirable
  • Experience in guideline development, audit and quality Improvement
  • Experience in quality, safety and clinical governance, e.g. incident reviews, gathering information, thematic analysis

Skills

Knowledge

  • Awareness of key issues and drivers within the National Maternity Agenda including the Patient Safety Investigation Framework (PSIRF)
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct

Desirable
  • Evidence of recent professional development that meets the requirements of the Quality, Safety and governance agenda

Qualifications
Essential
  • First level Registered Midwife.
  • First Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience gained in a relevant environment
  • Teaching Qualification (997/SLIPS or equivalent)
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous learning and application in practice

Desirable
  • Post Registration qualification / or robust CPD in relevant speciality
