Job summary
To co-ordinate and implement the in-service training and continuing professional education of the Emergency Practitioner (EP) team within the Emergency Department (ED). To work collaboratively with the EP Lead to support the growth, competency and professional development of the EP team ensuring delivery of safe, effective and high- quality patient care and to provide targeted training and support for registered nurses working within initial assessment (IA) and Rapid Assessment and Treatment (RAT), through both one to one and group teaching.

Main duties of the job
The role focuses on promoting a strong learning culture within the Emergency Department by delivering education, supporting staff development, and ensuring high clinical standards. Key duties include planning and evaluating training programmes, mentoring trainee and newly qualified Emergency Practitioners, and providing expert clinical guidance to enhance specialist skills.

Job responsibilities
The post-holder works closely with nursing and medical leadership to identify training needs, implement new clinical pathways, and maintain compliance with essential education requirements. They act as a professional role model, maintaining their own clinical competence and supporting service improvement.

Effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams are essential to strengthen interprofessional learning. The role also involves keeping up-to-date with national guidance, participating in professional development processes, and contributing to supervision, mentorship.

Leadership responsibilities include motivating and supporting colleagues, providing coaching and structured feedback, and driving high-quality patient care, professionalism, and patient safety within the EP and IA nursing workforce.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • Current NMC or HCPC Registration
  • Practising Emergency Practitioner
  • Evidence of formal and ongoing CPD in a relevant specialist area
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent teaching experience

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Proven track record in Emergency Care and evidence-based practice
  • Significant senior leadership and management experience
  • Experience providing educational support or teaching to others
  • Understanding of the NMC Code of Practice and its application to staff management and Enhanced Practice

Desirable
  • Experience/knowledge of advanced practice or protocols

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to lead, prioritise and influence change
  • Ability to facilitate, mentor and supervise colleagues effectively
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, motivation and a proactive approach
