Description

Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive band 8a Senior Cancer Pharmacist with previous cancer services experience to work as part of the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) clinical pharmacy team. The post holder will lead and develop the homecare and 'closer to home' treatment pathways in line with the National Cancer Plan. The post is currently fixed term for 12 months.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as innovative ideas on improving service delivery and enhancing patient care.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Lead the clinical pharmacy service in the management of cancer patients treated in 'closer to home' settings, though optimising homecare pathways and support the development of new service models allowing for care closer to home.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to expand current homecare treatment options and support implementation of novel models of care.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service for patients treated via these new care pathways.
  • Provide specialist evidence-based advice on treatments suitable for homecare administration or new 'out of hospital' administration options.
  • Mentoring, supervision and training of pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and the Homecare Pathway Navigator.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or clinical oncology/haematology, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Membership of the Royal College of Pharmacy
  • Membership of British Oncology Pharmacy Association

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Experience in cancer services and clinical verification of systemic anti-cancer therapy prescriptions
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and influencing medical and nursing staff
  • Experience of mentoring/training/teaching/supervising other professionals
  • Experience of audits and/or research
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks for the dispensing, prescribing, storage and administration of medicines

Desirable
  • Knowledge and awareness of current key developments and challenges relating to oncology and haematology and SACT

Skills and Abilities
Essential
  • Excellent verbal/ written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use specialist knowledge and judgement to challenge and influence prescribing
  • Ability to provide advice on complex pharmaceutical issues where evidence may be lacking and opinions differ
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment to specific timelines
  • Service improvement skills including the ability to collaborate with others to identify changes required, and to lead on implementing changes in own area of practice
  • Effective time and people management skills including ability to prioritise, plan and organise own workload and that of a team
