Job summary
Patients are admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) when they require intensive medical interventions and 1:1 nursing care. The majority of patient survive, and they generally require complex rehabilitation strategies to navigate their recovery to the ward and the community. The role of the therapy team is to deliver early rehabilitation to prevent long term impact of the illness upon a patient's life (this could be physical, psychological and cognitive). The post holder will join an enthusiastic and national leading team to delivery holistic care which is centred around collaborative goal setting. You will be guided by the registered staff (physiotherapy and occupational therapy) working alongside them and at times independently.

Main duties of the job
When working independently, you will be required to provide initial and follow up review, assessment and rehabilitation treatment to patients on critical care without direct supervision. This will involve taking appropriate action to achieve attainment of rehabilitation goals which have been designed to promote patient independence. The post holder will communicate information to patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals using tact, reassurance and professionalism.

Qualifications and training
Essential

• NVQ level 3 or Foundation Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent level of experience within acute care

Desirable

• Previous experience working within acute setting including high care environments

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Experience of working within healthcare and/or exercise teams
• Experience of working as a therapy assistant/rehabilitation assistant/exercise practitioner or equivalent
• Understands the concepts of therapy and the enabling approach

• Experience of working in a multi professional team
