Job Summary
Due to expanding demand for diagnostic genomics testing, the South West Genomics Laboratory Hub lab at Bristol has a new substantive vacancy for a Trainee Healthcare Scientist in cancer genomics.

Applications are invited from motivated and enthusiastic individuals with relevant qualifications and laboratory experience. Training will be provided where required, however applicants must be eligible for registration in the future following training though the ACS certificate of attainment. It is essential that the applicant has experience of cancer chromosome analysis and reporting.

Full time 37 1/2 hours per week full-time over seven days of the week.
Part time and job share considered.

Main duties of the job

• To be involved in all aspects of a section of a laboratory or designated work area delivering to nationally accepted standards with appropriate technical support the genetics service provided by the Bristol Genetics Laboratory.
• The post holder will be expected to work on a rotational basis in any section of the genetics laboratory.
• To undertake training and development of staff within the Department and other health care professionals as required.

Education and work experience
Essential

• 1st class or 2:1 (or equivalent) Degree must be recognised by HPCP as suitable for registration
• Experience of cytogenic analysis of oncology chromosomes
• At least one years experience as a band 5 analytical Genetic Technologist

Desirable

• MSc or PhD
