Trust Doctor ST3+ in Stroke Medicine

Job Summary
This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.

The post will be based in stroke medicine, supporting ward rounds on the stroke unit and acute thrombolysis sessions and sessions in the TIA clinic. On call commitments will be supporting the middle grade acute medicine on call rota. Full details on the on call rota can be provided on request, it includes a 1 in 23 participation in the rota.

Main Duties of the Job
Support for Hyper Acute Stroke, Acute Stroke and Rehabilitation wards, to support consultant led ward rounds. Support for acute thrombolysis supported by specialist nursing team and stroke consultant TIA clinics. Frequency of each to be determined by service need following negotiation with successful applicant

Job Responsibilities
The post holders will work within the Stroke medicine specialty. The trust encourages staff to work as a team with other colleagues and take full part in the work. Participation in the on-call rota is negotiable.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Essential: MRCP or equivalent
  • Essential: Applicants must have Full Registration with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
  • Desirable: Relevant higher degree

Experience and Achievements
  • Essential: Must have 4 years post graduate experience including 1 years within the Stroke Specialty
  • Essential: Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Stroke specialty
  • Desirable: Understanding current issues within Stroke and the future direction of the specialty
  • Desirable: Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Desirable: Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Desirable: Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions

Teaching and Training
  • Essential: Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
  • Desirable: Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Desirable: Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Desirable: Attendance at a teaching course
  • Desirable: Formal qualification in teaching/education

Audit and Research
  • Essential: Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects

  • Essential: Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Essential: Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
  • Essential: For areas requiring EPP Clearance (Exposure Prone Procedures), this will also be a requirement of the health screening
  • Essential: An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required with the Disclosure and Barring Service
