Outpatient Physiotherapy Services at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust are looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced physiotherapist to join our Women's Health Physiotherapy Service.

The post-holder will an integral part of the Women's Health Physiotherapy Service with a mixed obstetric and urogynaecology caseload. This will include working alongside the MDT and supporting the Band 7 in service development.

The ability to build relationships with other services involved in the care of patients with pelvic health issues is essential.

We seek a motivated and innovative individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

We would also consider a Band 5 developmental role for the right candidate. You will be provided with a tailored development plan, regular supervision, and access to relevant training to support your growth. Upon meeting agreed competencies and objectives, you will progress to a Band 6 role.

Candidates must have previous NHS pelvic health physiotherapy experience either as an undergraduate or postgraduate to be eligible to apply for this post

Main duties of the job
  • To act as specialist clinician for the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service, supporting the clinical lead with evolving and embedding best practice into the clinical area.
  • To manage own specialist caseload in this area.
  • Work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date records.
  • To carry out specialist assessment and treatment of Women's Health patients in an outpatient clinic setting, and contributing to MDT aims.
  • Determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment programmes and/or provide specialist advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.
  • To provide education/deliver classes to patients as part of the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service.
  • To deliver classes for routine pelvic health patients, and pre-op patients.
  • Take part in the education and training of Physiotherapists and qualified and non-qualified healthcare / social services / education staff including medical staff.
  • To support the Clinical Leads/ Team Leader in the day to day running of the Pelvic Health therapy team.
  • To support and advise within the wider MDT on the delivery of the service.

Job responsibilities
  • To work within the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service, developing effective clinical interventions, to contribute to clinical practice in the team in line with current evidence base.
  • To manage autonomously a clinical workload of patients / clients at a specialist level, assessing and treating patients and maintaining clinical records.
  • To have specialist assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited to: Specialist understanding of musculoskeletal problems in pregnancy and their treatment. Assessment and treatment of gynaecological problems including urinary and faecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Physical rehabilitation through exercise and function Specialist handling skills Medical clinical reasoning skills Awareness of sensitivity require for complex physical and psychological needs of the client group.
  • To apply evidence-based knowledge within the specialist clinical area acquired through experience and academic study to a specialist post graduate level.
  • To act, within the acute therapy service, as a resource and provide advice for Physiotherapists, other professionals and colleagues within the MDT about the assessment, treatment, management and care of patients / clients who have a multi-pathological illness and/or complex psychosocial need.
  • To work collaboratively with health and social care community and acute colleagues.
  • To work with other members of the MDT to ensure effective care pathways and transfer of care / discharges.
  • To proactively and appropriately facilitate a seamless transfer of care and continuing therapeutic management of Womens Health patients between care settings.
  • To work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary manner within the MDT, being able to debate the blurring of boundaries across professions and where competent take on aspects of blurred boundary working, where appropriate.
  • To develop specialist programmes of assessment, treatment and intervention for Womens Health patients in the acute hospital setting.
  • To manage and prioritise own clinical workload as appropriate, working efficiently to manage professional time and delegate according to the training and competency levels of other team members to ensure the effective delivery of the service.
  • To participate in the supervision process with staff on a daily basis and for students as required.
  • To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided including implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken.
  • To provide specialist assessment and advice for the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in MDT meetings as appropriate.
  • To run classes face-to-face and virtually as per the service requirements.
  • To work across a 7 day therapy service, including weekends and Bank holidays. This may also include participating in the respiratory on call service.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
Essential
  • Relevant Degree/Diploma
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Previous NHS Pelvis Health Physiotherapy experience as an undergraduate or at a post graduate level.

Desirable
  • Evidence of Postgraduate Training
  • Evidence of Pelvic Health Postgraduate Training
  • Clinical Educator Training
  • Member of Professional Body
  • Studied at Masters level or equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
Essential
  • Knowledge of requirements for appropriate consent for intimate examinations
  • Awareness of the management of complex psychosocial issues in Women's health
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people with complex difficulties and in difficult situations
  • Good Clinical Reasoning skills
  • Evidence of reflective practice
  • Evidence of relevant training and maintenance of best practice
  • Awareness of relevant Legislation, Local and National initiatives specific to role
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance

  • Teaching/Presentation skills eg, presenting in service training
  • Experience developing others
  • Previous NHS physiotherapy experience either as an undergraduate or postgraduate

Desirable
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal problems in obstetric patients in an outpatients setting
  • Experience in running classes for patients within a physiotherapy setting
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of gynaecological outpatients, with problems such as urinary and faecal incontinence
  • Experience in vaginal examination for pelvic floor dysfunction problems, and completed, or working towards completion of the necessary formal training
  • Attendance at relevant Special Interest Groups
  • Previous NHS physiotherapy experience either as an undergraduate or postgraduate
