Job summary
As a Diabetes Specialist Midwife, you will be a specialist resource in diabetes during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. The role of the Diabetes Specialist Midwife will encompass all aspects of education, research, and evidence-based practice and the post holder will be grounded in direct clinical care provision to women and their families.

As a Diabetes Specialist Midwife, you will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide and co-ordinate high standards of care for women whose maternity pathways are complicated by diabetes. The post holder will actively participate in the development of services to meet the needs of women with diabetes in maternity services, in line with national and local recommendations.

Candidates must be able to attend the interview in person.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated midwife to join our diabetes team in a varied and rewarding specialist role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about patient care and keen to develop their skills within a supportive clinical environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our diabetes clinics, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations while delivering high-quality patient care. You will be confident, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

We are looking for someone who:

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Midwife
• Diploma/Degree in Midwifery or equivalent
• Professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of relevant on-going professional development

Desirable

• Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
• Neonatal Life Support (NLS)
• Recognised course in Diabetes / CDEP

Experience
Essential

• Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
• Evidence of relevant clinical updating

Desirable

• Involvement with clinical audit and research and awareness of National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit (NPID)
• Use of Epic computerised information system
• Guideline development, review and implementation

Knowledge
Essential

• Aware of current research and its impact on evidence based care.
• Conversant with NMC rules governing practice
• Knowledge of current reports/guidelines relating to Maternity Care and specialist subject in Diabetes
