If you are an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for an opportunity to develop leadership skills, we have an exciting opportunity for a six month secondment within the Learning Disability Partnership. This role will be a job share with the existing postholder.

You will need to have significant experience working with adults with a learning disability and be able to provide comprehensive assessments and interventions (including sensory integration assessments) for people with complex needs.

Occupational Therapists are part of the Learning Disability Partnership, which is a consists of both health and social care professionals. You will need strong communication skills, a solution focused approach, resilience and the skills to work closely alongside members of the multi-disciplinary team to develop a network of support,

There will be the requirement to work across teams and therefore will need the ability to travel independently within rural areas

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the delivery of a countywide specialist learning disability Occupational Therapy service.

To provide professional leadership and management to the Occupational Therapy staff (and students) including recruitment, supervision, appraisal and professional development particularly mandatory training.

To provide specialist input into planning, development and evaluation of learning disability services, holding responsibility for defined projects as delegated by the LDP management team.

As an autonomous practitioner to manage a highly complex case load providing assessment, identification and treatment of the health needs of adults with a learning disability. This will include planning and implementing of appropriate clinical interventions based on the referral evaluation, assessment, diagnoses, treatment and monitoring of individuals identified needs for adults with a learning disability.

Job responsibilities

To work to reduce health inequalities for people with a learning disability by leading partnership working with partners in primary, secondary care in implementing the local health agenda. Undertaking joint work with other team members. To work collaboratively with service users, their carers and families asappropriate, to make decisions relevant to the service users individual needs. To develop close working relationships where appropriate with other agencies involved in current cases, maintaining the requirement for confidentiality, to promote complementary working relationships and ensuring a quality service regarding client care. Lead in the coordination of complex case work as a case manager for individual cases. To have a good understanding of the specific needs of the service user group including times of crisis. This may include supporting staff groups. e.g. during placement breakdowns, mental health and physical health relapses and periods of challenging behaviour. To recognise the impact of a persons communication needs and tailor interaction to meet this need. To frequently communicate and receive highly complex sensitive information with people with learning disabilities; who have highly complex needs; their relatives/carers and other professionals. To have the ability to communicate very sensitive or distressing information to service users and carers as required.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence\* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Education and Qualifications
Essential

• BSc (Hons) Degree in OT / Diploma equivalent.
• Accredited masters level qualification in sensory integration
• Practice placement educator qualification.

Desirable

• Management Qualification
• Membership of COT Special Interest Group (OTPLD) or alternative

Experience
Essential

• Significant Experience of working with adults with Learning Disability in a specialist setting
• Demonstrable post qualifying experience within a Community MDT
• Experience in providing Clinical supervision
• Experience of developing and Delivering training.

Desirable

• Experience of recruitment and selection
• Experience of developing service user and carer involvement
