Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and HCPC-registered Embryologist to join Care Fertility as Laboratory Manager, leading our embryology laboratories across Birmingham and Tamworth. As a key member of the clinic leadership team, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding fertility services and supporting patients on their journey to build a family.
Main duties of the job- Lead the day-to-day management of embryology services across Birmingham and Tamworth.
- Ensure compliance with HFEA, HCPC, ISO and Care Fertility quality standards.
- Provide leadership, supervision, training and development for the embryology team.
- Oversee quality management systems, audits, inspections, governance and risk management activities.
- Manage laboratory resources, equipment, consumables and cryostorage processes.
- Monitor clinical performance, analyse data, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support complex embryology procedures and provide expert guidance within the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to service development, operational performance and strategic objectives.
- Participate in weekend working and on-call rotas.

Job responsibilitiesAs Laboratory Manager, you will lead the day-to-day management and development of the embryology laboratories across Care Fertility Birmingham and Tamworth. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality fertility laboratory services, maintaining compliance with HFEA, HCPC, ISO and Care Fertility standards, and providing leadership to a team of embryology professionals.
The role combines clinical expertise with operational leadership, including responsibility for laboratory governance, quality management, risk management, workforce planning, training, equipment management, cryostorage oversight, and continuous service improvement. You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to support excellent patient outcomes and contribute to the strategic development of fertility services across both sites.
The successful candidate will remain actively involved in clinical embryology practice, supporting complex cases and providing expert guidance to colleagues while fostering a culture of quality, collaboration and excellence.
Person SpecificationEssential Knowledge and Skills- Comprehensive knowledge of HFEA regulations and fertility laboratory standards.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, validation, SOP development and laboratory audits.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to analyse data and use insights to improve performance.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and outcomes.
QualificationsEssential- Bachelor's degree (2:1 or above, or equivalent) in a relevant life science subject.
- HCPC registration.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable- RCPath Part I/Part II, HSST qualification or working towards.
- Leadership qualification or leadership training.
- Experience within a HFEA-regulated environment.
- Train the Trainer qualification.
ExperienceEssential- Significant experience working within a licensed fertility laboratory.
- Experience in a senior leadership, supervisory or management role.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams.
- Experience managing quality management systems and laboratory governance.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections and regulatory compliance.
- Experience training and mentoring scientific staff.
