Job summary
Carlton Group Practice is the largest Practice in East Staffordshire currently serving circa 17,000 patients over two sites approximately 2.5 miles apart in the heart of Burton on Trent.

This role is based between our two surgeries, Carlton Street Surgery and King Street Surgery. However, we have received NHSE approval for a new purpose-built primary care centre based on the Outwoods site opposite Queen's Hospital, planned for completion in late 2027 / early 2028.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Salaried GP and / or a Salaried GP with an interest in future Partnership to join and enhance our established clinical team consisting of 6 Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, Paramedic, Pharmacy and Nursing Teams supported by a Business / Operational Management Team, Care Co-ordination and Administration Team who all share our core value to facilitate high quality personalised patient centred care to our local community.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be highly driven, innovative, proactive and passionate about primary care. You will share our ethos to provide and maintain high quality clinical care in an ever changing environment and will help to shape and drive future development of the Practice.

  • Within easy commuting distance of Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham and surrounding areas

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
  • The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population.
  • The provision of services commensurate with the GMS contract.
  • Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance.
  • Effective management of Long-Term Conditions.
  • Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks.
  • On a rotational basis, undertake Telephone Triage and Duty Doctor roles.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance.
  • Identify, implement and embed best Practice through clinical guidelines and the audit process.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the Practice.
  • Actively assist in the achievement of Practice and PCN based contractual targets.
  • Attend and contribute effectively to Practice meetings as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the appraisal process.
  • Prepare and complete the revalidation process.
  • Commit to self-learning and share in the ethos of continuing professional development across the Practice team.
  • Contribute if required to the training of Medical Students from all clinical disciplines.
  • Review and adhere to Practice protocols and policies at all times.
  • Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times.

Secondary Responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Salaried GP may be requested to:
  • Participate in Practice audits as requested by the Audit Lead.
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
  • Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events.

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:
  • Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development.
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential
  • Qualified GP
  • MRCGP
  • Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
  • General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)

Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of continued professional development
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • General understanding of the GMS contract
Desirable
  • Minimum of two years as a salaried GP or partner
  • Experience of QOF and other contractual targets
  • Experience of local and national initiatives

Eligibility
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration
  • National Performers List registration
  • Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
