An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Nutrition Assistant Practitioners to join Ealing Community Dietetics within Central North West London NHS Trust, working with Ealing Community Partners.

This is a full-time permanent post.

Ealing Dietetics provides dietetic services across community settings, including Clayponds Hospital, a community rehabilitation hospital that supports patients requiring inpatient rehabilitation, nutritional support, and multidisciplinary care to promote recovery and independence. Dietitians work closely with medical, nursing, therapy and catering teams to ensure patients receive appropriate nutritional assessment, treatment and monitoring throughout their admission.

The Nutrition Assistant Practitioner plays an important role across both the Ealing Community Service and Clayponds Hospital. Working under the supervision of registered Dietitians, the post holder supports nutritional screening, monitoring food and fluid intake, providing first-line dietary advice, facilitating group education sessions, collecting clinical data, and assisting with the implementation of nutritional care plans. The role contributes to improving patient outcomes, promoting self-management, and ensuring timely access to dietetic support across inpatient and community pathways.

Main duties of the job

• To assist in obtaining dietary information from patients and following up care plans as recommended by the clinical dietitian
• Observe patients for signs of diet-related complications
• Offer support to the Adult and Paediatric Dietitians, nurses, health care assistants in identifying nutrition-related issues
• Perform nutrition assessments, including taking anthropometrical measurements
• To work alongside the Dietitians in implementing nutrition care plans and teaching/education sessions

Job responsibilities

• To assist in the treatment and management of patients under the supervision of a Dietitian. This will involve assessment and treatment duties and advice
• To provide training sessions for health and social care professionals
• To assist in the provision of oral nutritional supplements
• To provide patient related administrative support for the dietitians

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications
Essential

• Educated to G.C.S.E standard in English and Maths
• NVQ 3 or equivalent in nutrition with detailed knowledge of and training in physiology, anatomy, nutrition therapy and medical conditions

Desirable

• Experience working as dietetic assistant/nutrition practitioner/care assistant/healthcare support worker

Knowledge & Experience
Essential

• Previous experience of working with the general public or patients
• Knowledge of diversity issues and its application
• Knowledge of patient confidentiality including electronic information

• Physically able to carry out the duties of the post including transporting equipment
• Be self-motivated, confident and flexible
• Able to work effectively in a team and independently.
