Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to recruit a post for an Assistant Technical Officer in Aseptic Services to join the team comprising of, pharmacists, technicians, SMT's, SATO's, ATO's, WATO's and assistants delivering a comprehensive pharmaceutical service to the patients of South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation trust. This role is to cover a Secondment for 1 year.We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated person with good interpersonal & organisational skills who would enjoy being part of a friendly dynamic team. You must be able to adhere to the strict personal requirements for clean room working.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in the preparation of extemporaneously prepared & aseptic products in the Production Unit at The James Cook University Hospital (JCUH). They will work alongside Aseptic Services Pharmacy Technicians ans SATO's. They will supervise training for ATO's, Assistants, Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians & Pre-Registration Pharmacists. Working under the leadership of the senior technicians you will be expected to follow strict operating procedures in the production of chemotherapy regimens, intravenous nutritional products and other highly specialised drug products intended for the patients of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applicants ideally will have experience of aseptic/clean room environments, be able to work methodically and have meticulous attention to detail. You must be willing to meet the strict personal requirements for clean room working and be manually and mentally dextrous to undertake aseptic preparation.In house training and accreditation will be provided to achieve the required level of competency; on-going validation of aseptic technique is a requirement of the post.

• Carry out regular media fills and aseptic manipulation kits to ensure excellent aseptic technique
• Participate in aseptic dispensing of Cytotoxic, TPN, CIVAS, sterile and non-sterile activities.
• Operate specified equipment involved in these processes. Carry out collation of raw materials and consumables for use in these processes. Follow agreed procedures and assist in producing quality products.
• Check deliveries of incoming raw materials and consumables then store them correctly under the appropriate storage conditions. Rotating stock where necessary. Identify stock requirements of raw materials and consumable items used within aseptic services.
• Undertake spillage training to ensure safety of self and colleagues whilst handling cytotoxic products. Understand the immediate procedures for dealing with needle stick injuries, broken glass injuries and eye injuries when working in aseptic environments.
• Be able to demonstrate an ability to work with some degree of autonomy and possess both manual and mental dexterity. The physical aspects of the work can involve some prolonged periods of sitting, walking & standing.
• To participate in staff rotas including staggered start & end times.
• In addition, any other related duties that may be required to maintain an effective pharmaceutical service.
• To act as a coordinator between the wards requiring treatment and other service users and the Aseptics unit.
• To carry out ward top ups on the Chemotherapy day unit, Chemotherapy ward, Haematology day unit, Haematology ward & Radiotherapy unit. Some of these may be using the Omnicell system

Qualifications
Essential

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy Services
• GCSEs in Maths, English & Science
