Are you an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner ready to take the next step into clinical leadership?

Based in North London, Finchley Walk-In Centre is a modern, well-equipped NHS unscheduled care service operating seven days a week from a stand-alone community hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine advanced autonomous clinical practice with operational and clinical leadership, supporting the delivery of safe, responsive and high-quality urgent care.

As Clinical Team Lead, you will provide expert clinical assessment and decision-making while supporting the day-to-day leadership of the service. You will work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, providing clinical guidance, supervision and mentorship while promoting evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

You will play an important role in developing staff, maintaining high clinical standards, supporting service improvement and helping shape the future delivery of urgent care at Finchley Walk-In Centre.

Main duties of the job

• Lead a clinical team on a day-to-day basis, providing expert clinical knowledge while managing operational responsibilities including staff supervision, appraisals, and professional development.
• Deliver autonomous clinical care to adults and children (over 2 years) presenting with acute undifferentiated conditions and minor injuries using expert diagnostic skills.
• Independently prescribe, request and interpret X-rays within your professional competence.
• Ensure clinical governance, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with policies and mandatory training.
• Oversee clinical audits, develop clinical policies aligned with NICE guidance, and support implementation of evidence-based care.
• Supervise and teach trainee ACPs, junior staff, and students. Facilitate conflict and complaint resolution.
• Manage complex communications with staff and patients.
• Work flexible shifts including weekends and bank holidays, with occasional cross-cover at other sites.

Education/Qualification
Essential

• Registered Nurse or Allied Health Care Professional.
• MSc / PGdip Advanced Clinical Practice
• Qualification in the assessment of injuries, illnesses in adults and children.
• Independent Non-Medical Prescriber
• Evidence of Management/ Leadership training.
• Evidence of teaching demonstrated by a suitable qualification or accredited experience.

Desirable

• A recognised dual qualification in paediatrics would be highly desirable and advantageous.
• Additional qualifications in orthopaedics or mental health

Experience
Essential

• Extensive experience in Primary Care and/or Accident & Emergency settings, including the assessment and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses across all age groups, including children
• Proven experience in managing clinical emergencies and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care
• Experience in clinical leadership and service management roles within complex healthcare environments, including responsibility for team performance, staff development, and HR processes
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise, manage workload autonomously, and lead others effectively under pressure.
• Experience in leading and implementing change, quality improvement, and service development initiatives
• Evidence of conducting or contributing to clinical audit, research, and translating findings into improved practice

Desirable

• Experience of assessing and providing quality care to people with Long Term Conditions.

Skills & Knowledge
Essential

• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop individuals and teams, setting clear expectations and promoting accountability.
• Adaptable leadership style, able to delegate, prioritise workloads, manage conflict, and address poor practice effectively
• Able to analyse complex problems and develop practical, timely, and workable solutions within available resources.
• Demonstrates good understanding of the changing NHS environment and ability to translate this into practice
• Comprehensive clinical skills and knowledge across acute and chronic conditions, including history taking, clinical reasoning, physical examination, diagnostics, and prescribing.
• In-depth knowledge of pharmacology and evidence-based practice.
• Experience in safeguarding and providing care to vulnerable adults and children in line with best practice and statutory requirements
• Knowledge of the NMC Code, clinical supervision, personal development planning, and commitment to identifying and meeting learning needs within the four pillars of advanced practice
• Sound knowledge of clinical governance processes, risk management, and incident reporting
• Experience in audit and quality improvement, with ability to implement and monitor safe, evidence-based care.
• Collaborative understanding of primary health care, working effectively with social care and voluntary sector partners
• Awareness of and commitment to implementing equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice.

Desirable

• Experience of leading a research project. Been involved in a quality improvement project or transformation project.
