Job summary
Crocus Medical Practice is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team on a fixed-term maternity cover basis.

We are a progressive, patient-focused practice delivering high-quality, compassionate primary care. The successful candidate will work as part of a well-established multidisciplinary team, contributing to both day-to-day clinical care and the ongoing development of the practice.

This role offers a great opportunity for a GP seeking a supportive environment with flexibility and strong team working.

Main duties of the job
At Crocus Medical Practice, the General Practitioner plays a central role in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred primary care services. The post holder will work within a supportive, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team, providing a broad range of clinical services to a diverse patient population.

The GP will be responsible for managing both acute and long-term conditions, ensuring continuity of care, and contributing to the ongoing development of clinical services in line with local and national priorities. The role requires strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care.

In addition to direct patient care, the GP will contribute to quality improvement initiatives, collaborative working within the Primary Care Network (PCN), and maintaining compliance with regulatory frameworks including CQC standards.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Care
The GP will provide comprehensive, evidence-based medical care across a range of clinical settings, ensuring patients receive timely, appropriate, and effective treatment.

Consultation Delivery
  • Provide consultations using a variety of platforms including:
  • Face-to-face appointments
  • Telephone consultations
  • Video consultations
  • eConsult triage and responses
  • Adapt consultation style to meet the needs of individual patients, including those with communication barriers or complex health needs.

Diagnosis & Treatment
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of acute and chronic conditions using clinical expertise and evidence-based guidance.
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans, considering:
  • Clinical presentation
  • Medical history
  • Patient preferences
  • Current NICE guidelines
  • Initiate and interpret investigations and act appropriately on results.

Long-Term Condition Management
  • Provide ongoing care for patients with chronic conditions such as:
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Asthma/COPD
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Work in line with:
  • QoF (Quality and Outcomes Framework)
  • ECF (Enhanced Care Frameworks)
  • Practice protocols

Urgent and Same-Day Care
  • Provide urgent, same-day assessments for acute presentations.
  • Make safe, timely clinical decisions under pressure.

Home Visits
  • Undertake home visits for patients who are housebound or clinically unable to attend the practice.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation after visits.

Medicines Management
The GP will ensure safe, effective, and cost-conscious prescribing practices.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with:
  • NICE guidelines
  • Local formulary recommendations
  • Support deprescribing initiatives to reduce unnecessary medication use.
  • Work closely with the clinical pharmacy team to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Promote antimicrobial stewardship by:
  • Avoiding unnecessary antibiotic prescribing
  • Following current prescribing guidelines

Preventative Care & Screening
The GP will actively contribute to improving population health through preventative care initiatives.
  • Encourage patient participation in national screening programmes such as:
  • Cervical screening
  • Breast screening
  • Bowel cancer screening
  • Participate in PCN-led population health initiatives targeting at-risk groups.

Teamwork & Collaboration
The GP will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated, holistic care.
  • Collaborate with:
  • Practice nurses
  • Nurse practitioners (NPs)
  • Healthcare assistants (HCAs)
  • Clinical pharmacists
  • First contact physiotherapists
  • Social prescribers
  • Mental health practitioners
  • Engage with PCN services and contribute to shared pathways.
  • Attend:
  • Practice meetings
  • MDT discussions
  • Clinical case reviews
  • Provide clinical support and mentorship to:
  • GP trainees
  • Newly qualified staff

Administration & Record Keeping
The GP will maintain high standards of clinical documentation and administrative efficiency.
  • Record clear, accurate, and contemporaneous patient records using SystmOne.
  • Complete daily administrative responsibilities, including:
  • eConsult triage and follow-up
  • Referral letters
  • Test result reviews
  • Document management
  • Respond to tasks from administrative and reception teams in a timely manner.
  • Participate in rota duties including extended access where required.
  • Ensure effective communication with:
  • Patients
  • Colleagues
  • External healthcare providers

Safeguarding
The GP has a duty to safeguard vulnerable patients.
  • Adhere to local and national safeguarding policies.
  • Identify concerns relating to:
  • Children at risk
  • Vulnerable adults
  • Escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Attend safeguarding meetings and contribute reports where required.
  • Maintain up-to-date safeguarding training.

Quality, Governance & Compliance
The GP will actively contribute to maintaining high standards of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow all Crocus Medical Practice policies and protocols.
  • Participate in:
  • Clinical audits
  • Significant event analysis
  • Quality improvement (QI) projects
  • Support CQC compliance and inspection readiness.
  • Engage in appraisal and revalidation processes.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development in line with GMC requirements.

Communication & Patient Experience
The GP will ensure a high standard of patient interaction and experience.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Fully qualified General Practitioner (GP)
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List

Desirable
  • Experience of working within UK primary care/general practice
  • Experience using SystmOne
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
  • Experience in quality improvement (QI), clinical audit, or service development
  • Experience working within a Primary Care Network (PCN) or multidisciplinary team environment
  • Understanding of QOF, enhanced services, and NHS contractual frameworks
