Job summary
Salaried GP Maternity Cover (Fixed Term)

4 sessions per week | Fixed term (maternity cover) | Ideal start October, sessions required from November

We are looking for a salaried GP to cover maternity leave on a fixed-term basis, working 4 sessions per week: Monday AM & PM, Wednesday AM & PM.

We are a friendly, forward-thinking practice with a strong commitment to training and to delivering the best possible care to our diverse patient population. Our team includes 6 salaried GPs and 5 partners, working closely alongside a broad multidisciplinary clinical team.

About the role
  • 4 sessions/week: Monday AM & PM, Wednesday AM & PM
  • Fixed-term contract covering maternity leave
  • Start date: October preferred, sessions needed from November
  • Open to GPs with a specialist interest or a portfolio working pattern
  • Suitable for GPs at any career stage, including newly qualified GPs and Fellowship GPs
  • Mentorship available for any GP joining the team who would find this helpful

What we are looking for
A GMC-registered GP with a licence to practise (or due to be qualified before the start date), who shares our values of inclusivity, proactivity, and delivering excellent patient care. Whether you are newly qualified, on a GP Fellowship, or an experienced GP looking for a portfolio-friendly fixed-term role, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake all the duties associated with the role of a General Practitioner required by the GMS contract
  • Liaise with other health care professionals when required
  • Take an active role and contribute to weekly practice meetings
  • Attend any practice training sessions when not on leave e.g. annual Basic Life Support
  • Stay up to date with medical training in line with your Personal Development Plan
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the practice
  • Take on Lead responsibilities in any agreed area of practice management and/or clinical management
  • Support and contribute to the development of practice clinical procedures and protocols - carrying out clinical audits as appropriate
  • Completion of reports for solicitors, insurance companies and others
  • Accurate and timely input of patient data onto the clinical system
  • Act in a way that protects the confidentiality of patients and maintains the integrity of the patient/practice relationship
  • Recognise the importance of your own health and wellbeing, seeking appropriate support when needed and managing your workload in a sustainable way

Job responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations and e-consult, telephone triage / consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, other paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003.
  • Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
  • Qualified General Practitioner (completed certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
  • Currently on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register
  • DBS clearance
  • Have had an annual NHS appraisal
  • Have medical indemnity insurance cover for the sessions required.
  • Must be Emis proficient.

Desirable
  • Evidence of further postgraduate educational activities in relevant fields
  • MRCGP or equivalent
  • Additional professional interests
