Job summary
We are looking for a skilled medical phlebotomist who would like bank hours, 3 mornings per week for a month, and can provide short-term cover to the practice and as when needs arise.

Main duties of the job

• Venepuncture
• Chaperone duties
• Ability to undertake patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc.
• Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to colleagues
• Clinical IT system user skills and the ability to record accurate clinical notes

About us
Crondall New Surgery is a part-dispensing GMS practice in the village of Crondall, between Fleet and Farnham on the Surrey Hampshire border. We are part of Fleet PCN which in turn is part of Frimley ICB.

We have 6000 patients, the list size is growing steadily with local housing developments. We currently have partners and salaried GPs, practice nurses, HCA, phlebotomists, dispensers, first contact physio, mental health practitioner and a first class admin team. Home visiting is provided by an excellent paramedic practitioner home visiting service, employed by the local federation.

We cover 4 local care homes and a supported living facility, with weekly GP visits to each establishment.

Extended access commitment is currently one evening a week on a shared basis. There is a high quality local out of hours provider.

We use EMIS web and the Ardens clinical support package.

Our ethos is to offer first class patient care whilst maintaining a personal feel to the practice. We know our patients well and have historically low prescribing and referral patterns.

The team share lunch on a weekly basis, and have regular meetings. Local educational opportunities are excellent.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

• Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need
• Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient education
• Be an integral part of the general practice team
• Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the organisation
• Deliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiatives
• Act as a chaperone as required
• Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
• Provide support during minor operations as required
• Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy
• Work within national and local protocols where these exist
• Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding children
• Recognise the boundaries of your practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred
• Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements
• Support the administrative team on an as-required basis
• Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes
• Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance
• Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

Qualifications
Essential

• Has completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification
• There may need to be proof of any courses or training qualifications commensurate with the post
• Certificate of venepuncture
• GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
• Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care

Desirable

• Has worked in a primary care environment
• Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
