Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Band 7 Advanced Physiotherapist to join the team at Walkergate Park.

This part-time (0.4 WTE) role is based on Ward 2, a 16-bed neuropsychiatry assessment and treatment unit delivering specialist multidisciplinary inpatient care for individuals with complex neuropsychiatric conditions.

Ward 2 is a regional service for patients with Huntington's Disease, many admitted for comprehensive MDT assessment as their condition progresses. The service also supports patients with acquired brain injury, stroke, progressive neurological disorders, and movement disorders requiring neuropsychiatric assessment and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced physiotherapy assessment and treatment for patients with complex neuropsychiatric presentations
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, care planning, and complex disability management

Key Requirements
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience in neurological physiotherapy
  • Knowledge of neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions
  • Understanding of cognitive, behavioural, and perceptual impacts
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and management for patients with complex neuropsychiatric presentations. In collaboration with the wider MDT, responsibilities include specialist moving and handling assessments, wheelchair and seating assessments, 24-hour postural management, and falls prevention and management for individuals with complex needs.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
Essential
  • Recognised Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of post graduate study in specialist areas/neurology, equivalent to masters level
  • Further relevant post graduate training relevant to the post

Desirable
  • Registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience with a minimum of 2 years in Neurological Rehabilitation.
  • Proven clinical experience of working with service users' family and carers in delivery of physiotherapy treatment plans Multi-disciplinary team work
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of a wide range of conditions and physiotherapy approaches.
  • Advanced level of Physiotherapy clinical knowledge and skill in the relevant field.
  • Experience of supervising students / non registered staff
  • Evidence of leading and participating in audit.
  • Experience of teaching / training

Desirable
  • Evidence of relevant validated clinical post graduate training
  • Member of relevant clinical CSP interest groups
  • Attendance at an introductory leadership / management course.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced clinical physiotherapy skills across the discipline of neuro-rehabilitation including advanced assessment and treatment techniques, clinical reasoning and knowledge of outcomes measures.
  • Advanced level of skills in a range of appropriate standardised and informal assessments and treatment Forward and innovative thinking
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self directed learning
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively within multi-agency teams
  • Risk Assessment / management skills
  • Ability to use IT system
  • High level of presentation Skills
  • Excellent time management skills

  • Experience of conducting and evaluating clinical audit
