Job summaryWe are looking for a confident, enthusiastic, and dynamic psychologist to join our busy multi-disciplinary Children and Young People's Service in Northumberland. Working within the mental health team with a range of of mental health presentations inclusive of children and young people who may have a Learning disability/Neurodiversity.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and extend their clinical skills and knowledge working within CYPS. There may also be scope to work within our neurodevelopmental pathway, dependent on skill and service need. You will be working in an environment where there is strong emphasis on teamwork and quality of clinical care. You will work collaboratively with our friendly multidisciplinary team members including other qualified psychologists. We have a supportive psychological professions network that meets on a regular basis. As a service, we value the role of robust, supportive and effective supervision and you will have access to separate clinical and management supervision at a frequency that meets your needs.
Main duties of the jobThe post-holder is responsible for providing a qualified clinical psychology service to Mental Health and Learning Disability clients in a designated locality, providing psychological assessment, formulation and therapy, and advice and consultation to colleagues, and to other non-professional carers, on psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, care and treatment. The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence. Where appropriate the post-holder will provide clinical supervision to less experienced staff, in accordance with service needs. The post-holder will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity. The post-holder will contribute to training on a multi-disciplinary basis.

Person SpecificationEducation and QualificationEssential- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society and the HCPC.
- HCPC registered practitioner psychologist
Desirable- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Knowledge and ExperienceEssential- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity, including severe and enduring mental health problems, psychosis and personality disorder. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the possibility of physical abuse.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariable data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
Desirable- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
Skills and CompetenciesEssential- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Skills in evidence based psychological interventions.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
