Job summary
We looking for Band 6 Community Practitioners to work within the Children and young people's mental health service based within South Tyneside.

This involves supporting children and young people presenting with complex mental health needs and also undertaking neurodevelopmental assessments.

Our clinical team consists of Psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, social workers and other members of allied professions. We work alongside services and other professionals and systems to increase clinical understanding of children and young person's needs. Undertaking holistic assessments and formulation of needs in order to provide appropriate therapeutic support the the child or young person.

Main duties of the job
This is an opportunity to be part of a service that is making a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people, and families across the South Tyneside area.

Undertaking assessments and formulations of the young person who is presenting with complex mental health needs.

Undertaking neurodevelopmental assessments which includes undertaking assessments within clinic, school and home environments.

Working closely with the child/ young person and their parents/ carers. Clear communication is essential in all aspects of the role to support and engage the young person and their support network.

Working closely as part of an MDT which includes psychiatrists, psychologists, Nurses, Social workers, OT and support staff.

Working closely with other professionals/ services to ensure appropriate support is available for the young person.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
Essential

• Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
• Mentor Training
• Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post.
• Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post (CAMHS, Trauma therapies, formulation etc)
• Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
• Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection.

Desirable

• Post Registration Qualifications in Psychological Interventions
• Experience of working within a community team.
• Non-Medical Prescribing

Skills and Competencies
Essential

• Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
• Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
• Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance).
• Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others).
• Ability to adapt within a changing environment.
• Ability to work under pressure.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
• Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.

• Understanding of difficult to manage/challenging behaviours.
