Job summaryWe are looking for a highly motivated, well organised, and enthusiastic individual to join our busy multi-disciplinary children's learning disability and positive behavioural support team working across Newcastle and Gateshead.
You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members including Clinical Psychologists, Community Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Assistant Practitioner and Psychiatrists, contributing to improving the wellbeing of children and young people with a learning disability presenting with behavioural and/or emotional difficulties.
You will also be part of a wider support network of psychologists who deliver psychological care within our broader mental health and neurodevelopmental assessment teams.
Main duties of the jobThe focus of this post will be supporting the qualified Clinical Psychologists to provide assessment, formulation and interventions for a range of behavioural and mental health difficulties for children and young people with a learning disability, their families, and the systems around them. This may include individual and group work and use of standardised assessments such as cognitive assessments and contributing to neurodevelopmental assessment (e.g. home and school observations for assessment of ASD and ADHD etc.).
Observational skills and recording/report writing are key aspects of the post.
Experience of using standardised assessments and psychometrics (such as cognitive assessments) is also an advantage, although training will be provided if required.

Person SpecificationSkills and Competencies- High level of communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate and work in highly emotive circumstances.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to clients, carers and colleagues.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and other disabilities.
- Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health / cognitive impairment / disability context.
- Computer literate, including use of databases & data analysis, e.g. SPSS for Windows.
- Demonstrates graduate level knowledge and experience of research and research methodology.
- An understanding of psychology applied to healthcare.
Knowledge and Experience- Paid or unpaid work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities.
- Experience as an assistant/research psychologist.
- Knowledge of evidence based practice
Education and Qualification- Upper 2nd class honours degree, or higher, in psychology.
- Eligibility for graduate membership of British Psychological Society.
