Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work as an Assistant Psychologist in the Camden Memory Service, a well established, well regarded and supportive team delivering care to people with dementia and their families and carers. You will need to be dynamic, self-motivated, organised and creative and have excellent interpersonal skills.

You will work under the supervision of a clinical psychologist in a friendly, supportive and well led multidisciplinary team, providing psychological assessment and treatment for people with memory problems and their relatives and carers.

The main role is to deliver a manualised CBT based intervention to carers of people with dementia (START(STrAtegies for RelaTives)) as well as support with other psychological interventions including group work such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST).

You will form part of a committed wider groups of psychologist working in NLFT with older people, where there are excellent opportunities for shared learning. We strive towards anti-oppressive practice and are committed to Trauma Informed Approaches.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist in the assessment of service users and carers, undertaking protocol based psychological assessments using psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews as appropriate.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of psychological interventions and care plans. Including, START (STrAtegies for RelaTives) under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
  • To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups e.g. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) as required.
  • To work with other staff of the multi-professional team in the assessment and care provided to service users.
  • To attend and contribute to relevant multi-professional meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Registration
Essential
  • An honours degree or equivalent in Psychology
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership)

Desirable
  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of applied psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
  • Training in safeguarding

Skills and Abilities
Essential
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with service users, their families, carers and with other professional staff
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context

Desirable
  • Skills in managing data and using Excel
  • Skills in audit or QI and report writing

Experience and Knowledge
Essential
  • Paid or volunteer work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by older people with mental health needs or other disabilities

Desirable
  • Experience/ KnowledgePaid or volunteer work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities Experience of paid work in direct care provision A,I
  • Experience of working with older people, people with dementia or with carers
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of running psychological group treatments
  • Experience and knowledge of CBT

  • Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multi-professional setting
