Job summarySpecialty Doctor General Surgery
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in General Surgery on a 12 month fixed-term contract based at Darent Valley Hospital. and is available to start ASAP.
You will need to have full GMC Registration with a licence to practice to be considered for this role and have completed foundation training or have equivalent experience. Computer literacy and a good standard of written and spoken English are both essential. Previous applicants need not apply
Main duties of the jobThe Post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, eg cover "on call" duties.
The clinical commitments required of the appointee will be as detailed in the Weekly Programme of Duties though service needs may require alteration of the timetable without notice. The appointee will be required to visit any patient in any establishment forming part of the Trust at the request of the Consultant. The appointee will be required to be full shift rota and will be required to take part in Internal Cover arrangements during the absence of the Registrars and middle grades on annual or study leave.

The appointee will be required to undertake those administrative duties commensurate with the post and to be responsible for the supervision and support of the Senior House Officers. He/she will be encouraged to undertake research under the supervision of the consultants.
So far as is consistent with proper discharge of the above duties the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Core trainee competencies
- MRCS
- Full Registration
Desirable- Additional degree/diploma
- FRCS
ExperienceEssential- Postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
- Adequate experience in the specialty; or Shall have obtained experience and competencies
- Broad training in relevant specialty
SkillsEssential- Evidence of participation in audit
- Willingness to be involved in audit/research
- Good communication skills
Desirable- Audit/research publications
- Evidence of maintaining a portfolio of evidence of CPD
