Job summary
We have an exciting vacancy for a band 7 Senior Urgent Care Practitioner with a professional registration of NMC or HCPC.

The post holder will be a clinical expert in direct patient care including the assessment, examination, documentation, prescription, implementation and evaluation of care and appropriate discharge of patients including adults and children, presenting with undifferentiated minor injuries and illness.

The Senior Urgent Care Practitioner will be expected to engage in Shift Lead duties on a regular basis, to ensure patients are cared for by the right person, in the right place and at the right time.

The post holder will support the development of non-medical led models of care across urgent treatment settings in collaboration with multi-professional colleagues. They will play a crucial role in improving patient treatment through timely assessment, referral, responsive intervention, anticipatory care planning and optimal discharge coordination.

Main duties of the job
To work predominantly clinically, delivering high standards of care and using clinical knowledge and experience to ensure patients are cared for appropriately and in a timely manner.

Actively lead and promote the empowerment of all staff to be involved in the planning and development of patient services, by being the lead for learning & development. To support the learning environment in practice and the development of clinical skills. To actively teach all levels of staff, both formally and informally, toskills and knowledge.

Promote a culture of clinical leadership within the Urgent Care environment and across the wider health community by setting up clinical supervision, professional meetings, appraisal programmes and develop own personal development plan to ensure skills and knowledge are continuously gained and disseminated across all staffing grades.

In the absence of the Manager or Deputy Clinical Lead, have responsibility for an agreed range of duties to ensure a seamless and continuous high-quality service in their absence.

To apply clinical skills within the service by undertaking patient assessment and physical examination. Be able to demonstrate expert knowledge and diagnostic skills in line with clinical policies, guidelines and Patient Group Directives or Prescribing legislation. The completion of relevant clinical courses is expected and part of this role based on the UTC Clinical Development Pathway and completion of own competency documents.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • Professional registration with NMC or HCPC
  • At least one of minor illness or minor injury module at level 6 or 7
  • Minimum Level 7 Module in physical examination and clinical reasoning Will be required to start level 7 physical assessment module within 12 months of starting in post if not held on recruitment.
  • V300 Non-Medical Prescriber Level 7
  • Training and experience at advanced level in paediatric clinical assessment.

  • Teaching Qualification

Experience and Knowledge
Essential
  • Over 4 years post-registration experience
  • Experience of providing clinical leadership
  • Contemporary clinical experience within an acute/urgent care environment or commitment to undertake an agreed capability framework

Desirable
  • Practical understanding of primary care and community services

Skills and Attributes
Essential
  • Flexibility on shift to cover other Derbyshire UTC bases in case of extenuating circumstances.
