Job summaryA rare opportunity has arisen for a trainee Secondary Care Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist based in a Secondary Care Specialist CAMHS CBT service in Derby City and County South Derbyshire.
The role focuses on delivering treatment for young People in the CAMHS division with mental health needs, in particular anxiety disorders, PTSD and recurring and chronic depression with significant levels of comorbidity.
This role will require the candidate to attend the University of Derby for 2 days a week and work clinically for 3 days.
You will have a recognised mental health core profession and will be able to demonstrate extensive mental health knowledge and skills, experience of working with children and young people is desirable for this role. You will have excellent relationship-building skills and an ability to manage varied work demands, which are key to this role.
The CAMHS CBT team are a small, specialised service with experienced practitioners working across Derby City and County, supporting children, young people, their families and carers. We work 9-5 Mon-Fri, flexible working options are available. We have five bases across Derbyshire- Long Eaton, Belper, Ripley, Derby City and Swanlincote.

- To provide Trainee (level) Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBP) services by utilising Cognitive and Behavioural theoretical knowledge and skills to clients within Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT).
- To attend CBT Clinical Supervision in line with BABCP governance standards by a BABCP Accredited CBT Psychotherapist.
- To undertake a minimum of 3 days-worth of CBT clinical work to meet the training requirements of the course.
- To attend the CBT Training program and any relevant / identified CBT training.

Job responsibilities- The main dimensions of the role will be to learn to provide specialist CBT Psychotherapy for a caseload of young people that are experiencing complex mental health problems, more often than not experiencing suicidal risk and complexity.
- Whilst providing Trainee (Level) Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy there will be the utilisation of CBT theoretical knowledge and skills.
- Providing detailed CBP assessment and treatment according to CBT training level.
- To regularly attend CBT Clinical Supervision in line with BABCP requirements.
- To participate in Team Meetings and Service Innovation
- To be personally responsible and professionally accountable for a patient caseload
- To be responsible for contributing to the maintenance of high standards and high-quality practice of CBP treatment in the department.
- To participate as an active member of the whole CBP program
- To monitor and assess risk, highlighting and communicating any known risks to the wider Multi Disciplinary Team and taking appropriate action as required.
- To practice within professional guidelines of NMC / HCPC or SWE.
- To practice within the policies and procedures of DHCFT and the Therapy Service.
- To engage in treatment outcome research and use results to contribute to, and to ensure evidence based practice is in accordance to NICE Guidance or High Quality Clinical Research in CBT.
- To implement CBT Roth and Pilling competencies.
- You will have to attend a Level II CBT University Training course
- The role will require you to apply for the University Course independently, and Job offer or progression within the post is subject to being accepted on the CBT course, and successful completion of assignments to permit successful completion of the course.
- Failure to complete the course will result in the Fixed Term Contract being terminated or (continued with the clinician operating as a Band 6 Mental Health Therapist for further 3 month period).
- Successfully completing the Fixed Term contract training role and successfully completing the CBT course does not guarantee a Band 7 CBT Psychotherapist position within the Service. Though, it will put you in a very good position to apply for various CBT Psychotherapy roles within the Trust.
QualificationsEssential- Registered with HCPC / NMC / SWE statutory reg. body etc, or Dip HE Nursing / Social Work / Occupational Therapy.
Knowledge and SkillsEssential- Evidence of knowledge and skills in CBP gained through specialised clinical experience, clinical supervision of practice, specialist courses and ongoing CBT CPD
ExperienceEssential- To be currently practicing as a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner within a Secondary Care Mental Health Service or its equivalence
ExperienceEssential- To have significant experience undertaking various Band 6 Mental Health professional roles in Secondary Care Children and Young People Mental Health Services i.e. Inpatient Service / Early Interventions / CRHT / CMHT etc, or its equivalence.
