Hounslow and Ealing NHS Talking Therapies services are recruiting Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) as part of the NHS-funded Talking Therapies training programme. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to train and work within a friendly, well-established service.

Training is delivered by University College London (UCL) and is full-time. Trainees attend university one day per week and work in service four days per week. Course fees are fully funded by the NHS, and trainees are employed full-time at NHS Band 4 for the duration of the programme.

As a condition of the course, trainees must remain employed within an NHS Talking Therapies service throughout the training year.

Main duties of the job
Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) work with people across the adult age range, delivering low-intensity psychological interventions within NHS Talking Therapies services. We are committed to recruiting a workforce that reflects the diversity of the local London population and welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds.

Applicants should have experience of working with people experiencing psychological, interpersonal, or social difficulties. This experience may have been gained through paid employment or formal voluntary roles.

The training programme is a Postgraduate Certificate, and applicants must demonstrate the ability to study at postgraduate level. This may be evidenced through degree-level education or by demonstrating academic equivalence.

As part of the application process, candidates will be required to nominate two London NHS Talking Therapies services as their training preferences. Full details of the application process and requirements are outlined in the UCL recruitment pack and should be read carefully before applying.

Training intakes will commence at the start of Feburary 2027.

Qualifications
Essential

• Evidence of ability to study successfully at postgraduate level

Desirable

• Psychology or other health or social science related undergraduate or postgraduate degree
• Professional training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy

Experience
Essential

• Evidence of experience in an employed or formal volunteer helping role with people with psychological, interpersonal or social problems
• Demonstrates high standards in written communication. Able to write clear reports and letters.

Desirable

• Work or volunteer experience with people who have experienced a mental health problem

Skills & Competencies
Essential

• Computer literate
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills
• Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively

• Received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
