Job summaryChildren and Family Health Devon are advertising for a 5-month fixed term contract or an internal secondment (End date 21st December 2026) for a Band 7 Specialist Safeguarding Nurse for four days a week (0.8wte).
The base location for this post is flexible across the county.
The Safeguarding Childrens Team are dedicated and experienced practitioners who are accessible and responsive to the needs of individual staff and service areas, providing expert advice guidance and education in the area of safeguarding children and promoting the overarching commitment of Children and Family Health Devon to keeping children safe and identifying when additional help is needed to do so.
The Safeguarding Team work in the Devon Front Door (Previously known as MASH) and represent the Devon Health Community by gathering analysing and contributing information to the Front Door enquiries and strategy meetings regarding the welfare of children and young people.
Main duties of the job- To provide on-going supervision in Child Protection practice and associated record keeping, to the Alliance staff who have regular contact with children and other staff as required
- To provide specialist safeguarding children advice, information and support to all staff within the Alliance; including when liaising with GP Practice Nurses, Dentists and Pharmacists
- To provide support and guidance to the paediatric liaison nurse as required and provide cover for this function as required
- To contribute to the development of practice and procedures for Safeguarding and Child Protection within the Trust, in conjunction with the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children and the wider Safeguarding Team
- To provide professional expertise to the Devon Front Door (Formally MASH) and support decision making into the Front Door
- The postholder will work according to Standards, policies and Procedures set by the Trust and Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships
- To deputise for the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children in their absence
- To support/provide training, utilising specialist knowledge across a range of practice including nursing, social care and multiagency safeguarding practice for the alliance staff, as requested by the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children.
- To provide Leadership and support to enhance the working practice of all Alliance staff in relation to Safeguarding Children.
- To work across community and hospital bases as the job requires.
