Job SummaryThis is an exciting opportunity for someone to take on a developing role within an established Safeguarding service. The service covers a large Trust which presents both challenges and opportunities within the safeguarding arena. We are seeking individuals who will work as part of the MFT Safeguarding Team, which consists of Named Nurses (children's community, acute, adult and midwifery services; Specialist Nurses Safeguarding ; Specialist Nurses for Looked After Children, mental Health Learning Disability and Autism nurses. This opportunity is based within the Children's Acute parts of the service, though there is an acknowledgement that you will be able to work across both the community and acute safeguarding bases.You will provide child protection and safeguarding training, leadership, advice, supervision and expertise to health practitioners within the Trust and will promote the embedding of the principles of safeguarding into every day professional practice. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work well within a team environment as well as autonomously as the role requires. You should be an autonomous worker who can lead on various work projects whilst being a team player and working collaboratively with other members of the team, the wider Trust and external agency partners.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be expected to provide safeguarding knowledge. and expertise in demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues relating to identification, assessment, management and review of safeguarding vulnerable children and families.
The post holder will monitor and improve standards of care through safeguarding leadership, supervision, audit, evidence based practice, training and provision of safeguarding advice and support.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checkAs part of our commitment to safeguarding patients and staff, many roles at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.
What is a DBS Check?A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
- Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
- Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.
- Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS CheckMost roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBSAt Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered Children's Nurse / Community Public Health Practitioner
- 1 st Level Degree OR equivalent experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and training undertaken in respect of safeguarding to minimum Level 3 (as per Intercollegiate Document)
Desirable- Masters degree or working towards
- Recognised teaching/ mentoring qualification
Knowledge and ExperienceEssential- Knowledge of national and local safeguarding policies, guidelines and recommendations.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to safeguarding children
- Demonstrates knowledge relevant to patterns of abuse and neglect.
- Experience of safeguarding supervision
- Experience of delivering training
- Experience of policy development and implementation.
- Awareness of issues affecting ethnic minority families and other socially excluded groups
- Working knowledge of children's health and development and the nature and impact of child maltreatment.
- Experience of multi-agency child protection work
Desirable- Qualification in safeguarding supervision
- Accredited training qualification
SkillsEssential- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
