Co-ordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of a defined clinical area on a shift by shift basis. This includes acting as an expert resource to the MDT team and the wider multi-disciplinary team to support them in the delivery of high quality patient focused care, and ensuring all staff act in a professional manner and all registered staff are working as accountable practitioners. To facilitate this the Co-ordinator role will be available on each clinical shift over a 24 hour period Monday to Sunday.
Through effective clinical leadership and role modelling is able to inspire, motivate and empower others. This will require the post holder to be highly visible and to have an accessible approach for women, their relatives / carers and staff.
This is a senior Midwifery role within the organisation and there is an expectation that the post holder will fully participate in the clinical and professional leadership within the organisation.
Work with the Intrapartum unit Manager in setting and monitoring professional standards and the delivery of all aspects of care ensuring trust policies and procedures are adhered to protect women's safety and wellbeing at all times.
Main Duties of the Job- As Labour Ward Co-ordinator and an expert practitioner, liaise, guide and advise the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum maternity care.
- Be responsible for ensuring the environment and ward processes are responsive to the needs of women and their carers recognising the importance of privacy, dignity and diversity.
- Individuals will be highly visible in their clinical areas, working alongside, and leading the team in a clinical supervisory role.
- Maintain high levels of visibility at all times to facilitate proactive communication with women, their families and carers.
- Acting as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages and coaches their team members to challenge their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to enhance their roles. This includes the creation of a culture of appraisals and personal and professional development whilst setting clear smart objectives to meet the needs of the individual, clinical area and organisation.
- Deploy staff in line with the trust roster policy, which is reflective of the skill mix and patient dependency, to ensure safe and appropriate midwifery care is provided at all times. This includes full compliance with the roster calendar and effective management of planned absences to enable proactive management of staffing shortfalls and the ability to take corrective action as appropriate.

Person SpecificationKnowledge and ExperienceEssential- Midwife with at least 3 years in a labour ward setting at Band 6
- Demonstrates speciality expertise underpinned by theory
- Experience of working with women with enhanced care needs.
- Evidence of being in charge of a shift
- Ability to provide relevant advice to junior midwives and doctors on a variety of management and clinical issues
Desirable- Ability to co-ordinate and manage obstetric emergencies
- Evidence of change management experience
- Evidence of the importance of debrief
Qualifications and TrainingEssential- Registered Midwife with active NMC registration
- Teaching/mentorship qualification
- Neonatal Life Support (NLS) or willing to undertake the course on appointment
- Provide evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable- Masters in Midwifery
- Managerial/Leadership qualifications and/or relevant experience
- NIPE Qualification

- PMA
