East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation TrustConsultant in Gynaecology OncologyClosing date: 26 July 2026Job summaryEast Kent Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT) is a gynaecology oncology centre. You will be joining a team of two other subspecialty trained gynae oncologists, a consultant gynaecologist, two general gynaecologists with expertise and interest in gynae oncology and specialist nurses amongst others. The gynae oncology operating takes place at QEQM hospital which is a busy district general hospital close to the Kent coast. The gynaecology ward has 20 beds and is staffed by a team of motivated gynae nurses. The gynaecology ward is also at QEQM hospital.
QEQM has dedicated early pregnancy unit (EPAU) and gynae assessment unit (GAU) which are adjacent to the gynaecology ward. There are regular oncology clinics on 3 of the sites and additional colposcopy and 2 week wait clinics on a further 1 site.
The Trust hosts medical students on attachment from GKT, UCL and Imperial Medical Schools and became a University Hospital linked to GKT in 2009. From September 2020, we started to host an intake of medical students from the new Kent and Medway medical school which is based in East Kent.
Main duties of the jobThis is a substantive 10PA Consultant post in Gynaecology Oncology. It is a replacement post for QEQM due to a retirement. The post-holder will need to demonstrate competence in Gynaecology Oncology as well as core Gynaecology. The consultant will be expected to participate in on calls for the gynae oncology patients. The on calls also provide support to the wider women's health team for example with complex operative deliveries, major obstetric haemorrhage etc.
There will be a regular on call session (1 in 7) as well as regular theatre sessions, oncology clinics, colposcopy clinics and MDT's and cross covering colleague's theatre lists. The on call supplement is 5% and Category A . Predictable work whilst on call 1.5 hours per week 0.38 Pas.
The job plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities per week consisting of 8 direct clinical care PA's and 2 supporting professional activity PA's. The precise length of Programmed Activities may vary from week to week around the average assessment set out in the Job Plan.
