Job summary
We have vacancies for 2 Junior Education Fellows to commence 5th August 2026 until the 3rd August 2027.

These unique posts provide rich opportunities to develop interests and expertise in medical education whilst broadening your clinical experience.
  • The posts will be based in the education team, but it is anticipated that each candidate will typically work clinically on 2 days per week.
  • Each candidate will work to support the clinical teamsin a specific clinical specialism by providing classroom & bedside teaching & by working & supervising medical students in the clinical areas
  • The posts will support the delivery of clinical placement activity inacute & emergency medicine.

Each successful candidate will have at least 12 months post foundation experience in the appropriate clinical area.

Funding will be made available for the successful applicants to complete a PG qualification in medical educational (if undertaking the role for a full 12 months only) if the candidate does not already hold this. The qualification and education provider where this will be undertaken will be determined by the Trust.

Main duties of the job
The majority of the post holder's role will be focused on the teaching & supervision of University of Lancashire undergraduate medical and physician associate students. However, it is strongly expected that you will make some contribute to the education of all other learners within the Trust including:Skills sessions, Ward based supervision/teaching sessions Bedside teaching sessions, Lecture and tutorial sessionCase presentations, CBL & PBLSimulation sessions, Student supervision & assessmentSupport the delivery of medical student OSCE's

During your clinical elements of the role the successful candidate will work alongside students to deliver appropriate care for the various patients who attend the trust. This could include;o Immediate resuscitation for seriously injured & seriously ill patientso Assessment & immediate care for other emergency patientso Referring patients to the appropriate specialty for admission or referral to out-patient clinics, such as Fracture Clinics, or referral back to the General Practitioner.The specific requirements of the clinical element of the role will be agreed with the clinical director for the specialism. The clinical director will also specify the appropriate level of supervision required by the successful candidate whilst working clinically.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full Registration with GMC and Licence to Practise
  • Successful completion of Foundation Training (as a minimum)
  • Completed foundation training at UK Hospital or has 12 months experience working as a doctor in a UK hospital.

Desirable
  • Evidence of publications in medical education journals

Knowledge Requirements
Essential
  • Knowledge of medical training and evidence of competence in relevant procedures
  • Knowledge of education and training issues from competition of UK based Medical degree or a minimum of 12 months previous NHS experience
  • Good communication skills with ability to motivate colleagues - medical and non-medical
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Demonstrates professionalism in attitude and application
  • 12 months post foundation experience in acute or emergency medicine

Desirable
  • Awareness of national agenda in relation to medical education and training

Further Requirements
Essential
  • Train the trainer / Teaching, Learning and Assessment training qualification
  • Experience in Emergency Medicine
  • Experience of working in or delivering medical education
  • Experience of working with staff from different professional backgrounds

Desirable
  • ATLS, ALS or APLS qualified
  • Post grad qualification in medical education or equivalent
  • Extensive experience of working in or delivering medical education

Contractual Requirements
Essential
  • Flexibility in working hours to meet the requirements of the post
  • A genuine interest in teaching medical students
  • Health must permit carrying out the duties of the post

Desirable
  • Access to private transport
