Job summaryThis post is a full-time 1.0 wte substantive consultant post within the Adult Mental Health Liaison Psychiatry service based at The Royal London Hospital (RLH). The post holder will work between the main adult liaison team and provide input to the renal services at the Royal London and across services sites within North East London. 5 PA's will be working within the established liaison team, and 5 PA's will be for work within the Renal arm for the service. There may be opportunities to contribute to clinical cover at the Bart's site.
Main duties of the jobThe 1.0 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) job plan will be developed to meet the needs of the service and is envisaged to include 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 2.5 PAs for supporting programmed activities (SPA). The main duties of the post consist of providing consultant input to the Adults Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT), to the wards, and to the Renal department as described above. This would include assessing patients, devising management plans and providing clinical leadership. The post holder will also provide cross-cover to the other Consultants in the team.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
- GMC registration
- Eligible to be on the register of Approved Clinicians (MHA, 2007) or on the register
- Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of gaining CCT).
DesirableKnowledge and Experience:Essential- Experience: Good experience of working in adult psychiatry services and especially in the care and assessment of complex co-morbidity in a liaison psychiatry setting.
- Good experience of the Mental Health Act.
- Comprehensive risk assessment and management in the community and inpatient setting.
- Excellent Clinical Leadership skills.
- Experience of leading projects to improve quality of care
Desirable- Dual CCT in General Adult/liaison psychiatry
- Understanding of continuous improvement methodology (Quality Improvement).
- Experience of working with psychotherapy models of care.
- Specific experience and knowledge of psycho- pharmacology in adults.
Personal Skills:Essential- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to train and supervise junior medical staff / medical students / staff from other disciplines.
- Commitment to/skills in multidisciplinary working.
- Cultural sensitivity, ability to work with a diverse population.
