Job summary
BRUNEL PRIMARY CARE NETWORK are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Respiratory Nurse to lead and develop high-quality respiratory services across our member practices; UniCity, East Shore Partnership and The Lighthouse Group.

This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse working at an enhanced level of practice who is passionate about improving outcomes for patients living with asthma, COPD and other long-term respiratory conditions.

You will work alongside GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team, delivering expert clinical care while supporting service improvement, education and leadership across the PCN.

This position is funded through the NHS Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS).

Main duties of the job
You will:
  • Deliver expert respiratory assessment and management.
  • Lead respiratory clinics across multiple practices.
  • Perform and independently interpret diagnostic-quality spirometry.
  • Optimise inhaled therapies.
  • Support early diagnosis of respiratory disease.
  • Reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
  • Mentor and educate clinical colleagues.
  • Lead respiratory quality improvement projects.
  • Support delivery of national respiratory programmes.

The Brunel Primary Care Network consists of three Practices across Portsmouth; East Shore Partnership, The Lighthouse Group and University Surgery.

We have highly skilled and motivated teams working within our PCN, which consist of GP Partners, Salaried GP's, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Diabetes and Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Nurses, GP Assistant's and HCA's; who are supported by skilled administration teams.

Job responsibilities
The Senior Respiratory Nurse will provide expert respiratory nursing care across Brunel Primary Care Network, delivering high-quality, evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management for patients with respiratory disease.

Working autonomously at an enhanced level of practice, the post holder will provide clinical leadership, support service development, mentor colleagues and contribute to improving respiratory outcomes across all member practices.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing NMC revalidation.
  • Postgraduate qualification at Level 7 or above relevant to enhanced respiratory practice.
  • Working at an enhanced level of practice as described within the Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career and Core Capabilities Framework.

Desirable
  • Independent Prescriber qualification.
  • ARTP Spirometry Accreditation.
  • Teaching or mentorship qualification.

Experience
Essential
  • Significant post-registration experience within Primary Care or Community Services.
  • Extensive experience managing asthma and COPD.
  • Experience leading respiratory clinics.
  • Experience delivering education and mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience undertaking quality improvement and clinical audit.

Desirable
  • Experience of service redesign within Primary Care Networks.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential
  • NICE guidance relating to respiratory disease.
  • BTS/SIGN respiratory guidance.
  • Medicines optimisation.
  • Population Health Management.
  • Long-term condition management.
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills.
  • Autonomous clinical decision making.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Competent in performing and independently interpreting diagnostic-quality spirometry.
  • Demonstrable expertise in spirometry interpretation in accordance with current ARTP standards.
  • Ability to work across multiple GP practices.
  • Excellent IT skills.
