Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic, self-motivated nurse to join the gastroenterology team at Epsom and St Helier to support the UGI chronic benign conditions service. This is an exciting and varied role, working within a multi-disciplinary team providing a high level of support to patients.
The right individual will have the opportunity to lead, develop and shape the service provided to patients within this speciality and be encouraged to share areas of good practice.
The role includes the planning, teaching and organisation of patients with complex needs as well as being a resource to all disciplines on matters pertaining to chronic benign UGI conditions; this includes activities such as audit, quality and risk management initiatives.
The successful applicant will have extensive experience in an acute setting, care of patients requiring Advanced Nursing Skills for their long term health conditions. Excellent organisational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are required for this role.
This post will be based at cross site.Main duties of the jobThe Upper Gastro-Intestinal Chronic Benign conditions Clinical nurse specialist will play an integral role in the development of a quality driven service to all patients treated at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and particular focus at St Helier Hospital.The CNS has a leadership role within the Trust and is responsible for the development of the innovative nursing practice within the UGI speciality.The post holder is expected to facilitate the development of other nurses in order to benefit patient care and to be an educational recourse to all members of the Trust wide multidisciplinary teams (MDT) regarding the provision of care.The CNS will help to promote and co-ordinate a seamless pathway of care from diagnosis though treatment and surveillance for patients Barrett's oesophagus and IPMN.Central to this role will be a collaborative approach with the MDT providing a comprehensive patient focused service.

Person SpecificationEducation/Qualifications- Registered professional (NMC) with evidence of regular updating
- Nurse practitioner qualification or equivalent Level 6/7
- Evidence of significant professional development with a focus on Gastroenterology and chronic conditions
- Non Medical Independent prescriber
Desirable- Counselling skills training
Experience- Substantial experience and achievement in an advanced nursing role with Gastroenterology
- Experience of working collaboratively within a multiprofessional team environment
- Experience of managing a patient case load in an NHS setting
- Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience.
- Experience of developing clinical guidelines and clinical care pathways.
- Experienced trained endscopist in upper and lower GI modalities
- JAG accreditation
- Knowledge of current BSG guidelines
Knowledge & Skills- A commitment to nursing and an awareness of issues influencing current and future nursing and healthcare practices, and the ability to think through the implications for healthcare
- Transformational leadership and ability innovative approach to service delivery
- Ability to co-ordinate surveillance database
- Good knowledge of IPMN and Barretts
- Ability to analyse complex information and provide a range of options to share information to the wider team
- Ability to utilise research and audit to develop practice in self and others
- Ability to use excel to a high standard
