Job summary
We are offering a ward manager role on our Renal wards. Can you Provide Clinical Expertise and visible leadership and support for the Renal acute care unit and Renal Wards. Enable staff to ensure that the fundamentals of care are correctly and actively in place and that highest standards of holistic care are achieved in the delivery of care and treatment. Directly manage the ward areas and the nursing staff. The expectations of this role will be met by professional leadership, skilled and expert practice and management, direct clinical care, education and training. Develop and update guidelines and related practice in line with current research. Monitor standards of care, manage selection, deployment, training and development of staff and students. Assesses and develops and implements specialised nursing packages of care and is responsible for maintenance of standards by all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Create and support an environment of lifelong learning and continuous professional development. Provides highly specialised nursing advice to ensure appropriate treatment and care is delivered to the patient at all times. Refers and orders specialised tests in line with agreed protocols and clinical governance guidelines To assist in the development of evidence based practice in the renal service.

Main duties of the job
To have responsibility for the following aspects of care and management:
  • Ensure that all care delivered is evidence based and that guidelines are up to date.
  • Monitor standards of care using fundamentals of care audit framework.
  • Selection, deployment, training and development of staff and students
  • Assess, develops and implement specialised nursing packages of care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to maintain standards.
  • To create and support an environment of lifelong learning and continuous professional development
  • Refers and orders specialised tests in line with agreed protocols and clinical governance guidelines.
  • To assist in the development of evidence based practice in the renal service.
  • Delivers specialist haemodialysis treatments including HDF & SLED in acute setting.
  • Delivers specialist respiratory care acute CPAP,Optiflow and Bipap
  • Educational strategies that ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Provides highly specialised nursing advice to ensure appropriate treatment and care is delivered to the patient at all times in line with NICE guidelines and UK Kidney association guidelines.
  • Is accountable for the provision, organisation and direction of the nursing care for the patient in his/her care.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • Registered General Nurse, Degree Level or relevant experience Renal specialist qualification or equivalent experience
  • Teaching & Mentorship qualification SSSA or equivalent Experience in acute care setting and NIV therapy Haemodialysis experience.

Desirable
  • Level 6 degree or Msc level 7

Knowledge and skills
Essential
  • Excellent interpersonal Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Audit and standard setting Knowledge of recruitment, selection and disciplinary procedures
  • Leadership / management Skills

Desirable
  • Counselling skills
  • ICT skills Presentation and teaching skill

Experience
Essential
  • Previous experience in Renal Nursing to include haemodialysis care.
  • Proven experience with change management Previous experience in implementing Evidence-based practice

Desirable
  • Experience and knowledge of Transplantation, peritoneal dialysis and general and advanced kidney care
  • Evidence of participation in research
