Job summaryBand 7 Specialist Respiratory Nurse. 22.5 hours per week | Permanent. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, skilled and innovative Specialist Nurse with experience in respiratory care to join our passionate and enthusiastic team. This rewarding role offers the unique opportunity to work collaboratively with medical and specialist nursing colleagues across both hospital and community settings. You will play a key role in supporting the management and treatment of childhood asthma and respiratory conditions, acting as an expert resource for patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality, child-centred care and who is committed to building strong, supportive relationships with children and their families. The successful applicant will receive comprehensive education, mentorship and ongoing support to further develop their clinical expertise and specialist knowledge across all aspects of the service. Opportunities for both internal and external training will be provided. Applications from candidates suitable for a Band 7 training post will also be considered. Previous applicants need not apply.
Main duties of the job- To provide care, support, advice and education both in the hospital, home and school settings for children and young people with a diagnosis of asthma and wheeze.
- The role will include working within a team of Respiratory, Cystic Fibrosis and Allergy Nurses, cross covering where possible.
- The post holder will be required to support the wider team and be involved in the care of all patients under the Respiratory Nursing team.
- To provide management support to children with asthma within the community setting to avoid hospital attendance/ admission / readmission.
- To promote the service across the Frimley Integrated Care System.
- To provide management support and professional development for the Paediatric Respiratory Associate Nurse Specialist.
- To audit and improve the service with the support of both Paediatric Secondary Care and Primary Care Teams.
- To provide professional, high quality co-ordinated patient care to children and their families, aiming to improve the management of their long-term condition, within agreed protocols and allocated resources together with the nursing and clinical lead and colleagues.

Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Previous experience of formal / informal teaching of patients and staff.
- Experience in managing paediatric respiratory patients in the hospital / community setting.
Desirable- Previous experience in audit and evaluation.
- Previous community nursing experience
- Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice.
- Experience in acting as a clinical supervisor and mentor to others.
Skills & KnowledgeEssential- Advanced clinical assessment skills.
- Able to work autonomously and within a team and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to initiate, sustain and evaluate change.
- Demonstrates skilled written and verbal communication skills
QualificationsEssential- Registered Sick Children's Nurse (NMC Sub-Part 1 (Children) / RN Child
- Relevant specialist post basic programme in paediatric respiratory and management
- First degree in nursing, or demonstrable experience at this level
Desirable- Completed / completing a Master's pathway
- Diploma in asthma care
