Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our busy and well-established GP surgery.
This 20 hours per week permanent vacancy has become available following the planned retirement of a long-serving and valued member of our clinical team. We are therefore looking for someone who is enthusiastic, patient-focused and committed to delivering high-quality care.
Working alongside our GPs, nurses and wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our patients.

Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will undertake a range of clinical duties including:
- Phlebotomy (venepuncture)
- Measuring blood pressure, height, weight and BMI
- ECG recordings
- NHS Health Checks
- New patient health checks
- Urinalysis and specimen management
- Supporting chronic disease monitoring clinics
- Infection prevention and control activities
- Stock monitoring and clinical room preparation
- Maintaining accurate patient records using the clinical system

Glastonbury attracts complementary practices in the town; we however provide conventional family medicine as this suits the vast majority of our practice population.

Job responsibilitiesPatient Care- Record blood pressure measurements, including the use of manual techniques.
- Measure height, weight and BMI.
- Record pulse rates and oxygen saturation levels.
- Conduct NHS Health Checks, if required.
- Perform venepuncture (blood sampling).
- Undertake ECG recordings.
- Carry out new patient health checks.
- Perform urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
- Support smoking cessation and lifestyle advice under guidance.
- Administer vaccinations where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Carry out simple wound care and dressings as delegated by a registered clinician.
- Assist with chronic disease monitoring clinics.
- Act as a trained Chaperone.
- Assist in the delivery of minor operation and specialist clinics. This includes the preparation of clinics, assisting the clinician, and competent in Basic Life Support.
Infection Prevention and Control- Maintain clean clinical environments.
- Clean and prepare treatment rooms and equipment.
- Follow infection control policies and procedures.
- Ensure safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps.
Equipment and Stock Management- Monitor and maintain clinical equipment.
- Report faulty equipment promptly.
- Check emergency equipment and medicines as required.
- Order and monitor stock levels of clinical supplies.
Administrative Duties- Prepare consulting and treatment rooms.
- Ensure patient records are updated accurately.
- Assist with recall systems and patient invitations.
- Manage specimen collection and transportation procedures.
- Code clinical information where required.
- Support reception and administrative teams when necessary
