The Healthcare Assistant will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team within an acute general medicine ward, providing high-quality, compassionate and person-centred care to patients. The post holder will support patients with their personal care needs and activities of daily living, promoting dignity, privacy, independence and wellbeing at all times.

The role involves providing physical, practical and emotional support to patients with a range of acute and complex care needs, whilst maintaining a safe, clean and supportive environment. The post holder will work collaboratively with registered nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively and contributing to the assessment, delivery and evaluation of patient care within the scope of their role and competence.

The Healthcare Assistant will demonstrate the values and behaviours expected within the NHS, treating patients, relatives and colleagues with kindness, compassion, respect and dignity, and ensuring that care is delivered in a safe, professional and patient-centred manner.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the Healthcare Assistant are to provide high-quality, compassionate and person-centred care to patients within an acute general medicine ward. The post holder will work both independently and as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, working closely with registered nursing and medical staff to ensure patients receive safe, appropriate and holistic care.

Key responsibilities include supporting patients with their personal care needs and activities of daily living, including washing, dressing, nutrition, hydration, mobility and maintaining personal hygiene. The role also involves providing reassurance and emotional support, promoting independence and dignity, and encouraging patients to participate in their care and recovery wherever possible.

The Healthcare Assistant will work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe, clean and welcoming ward environment, whilst ensuring confidentiality, dignity and respect are maintained at all times. The role requires good communication, organisation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to use initiative and work independently while recognising when support or guidance is required.

Person Specification
Essential

• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (RQF accredited) or NHS England accredited Care Certificate, with evidence of full completion of the knowledge and work based assessments / relevant experience
• Moving and Handling Certificate
• Evidence of practical training or education in a care setting
• Basic Life Support Certificate
• Evidence of practical training or education in a care setting
• Overall application quality

Desirable

• Previous experience in rehab setting
• Practical skills in providing essential aspects of care.
